A reclusive copper heiress who spent the past decades living in New York City hospitals has left most of her $400 million fortune to charity--and a nurse who was randomly assigned to care for her 20 years ago.
The New York Post reports that Huguette Clark did not leave a penny to her family members. The lion's share of her fortune will go to a foundation to promote the arts. She left the biggest chunk of the remaining inheritance--a testament worth about $38 million--to her private nurse, Hadassah Peri. She also left Peri her collection of dolls and dollhouses, which The New York Times says could be worth millions.
Clark, who died last month at 104, divided up the rest of her assets among her accountant, her lawyer, a physician and a goddaughter.

Any links to D’Anconia Copper?
wonder if the “stiffed” family actually ever came and visited her in her convalescence/decline?
John Belushi in drag?
Oooooh. If the lawyer who drafted the estate plan is the same one who received benefit from it, there could be real trouble.
She had no children and I trust her judgement in how she dispersed her money. Better than Leona Helmsley leaving millions to her cat. STILL, there might be some kind of fruitless legal challenge from distant relatives, which will go nowhere, but probably tie things up for a while.

It’s an honor.
Most likely not. The estate still had value.
That’s a man..man.
If you’re wealthy, instead of leaving your money to charity, I prefer the idea of leaving it to purposes that people will either laugh at or ponder for many years.
This can be as simple as treasure maps sent to random people around the world, that actually lead to treasure, but weird treasure, like gold coins stamped with arcane symbols, silver statues of space aliens, etc.
Or pay an artist to make a giant statue to some character actor:
Or some kind of Piltdown Man project. Mayans vs. Vikings, that sort of thing.
Or pay genetic scientists to make some weird new species of animal to name after you. That can breed and survive in the wild.
Dog. Helmsley left a fortune to her dog, named Trouble.
Lawyer: "Doc, are you sure your patient is going to outlive all of us. Did you HAVE to make her stop smoking??"
Damn, I blew that one.
Lawyer: “Doc, your patient is going to outlive all of us. Did you HAVE to make her stop smoking??”
“Dog.”
Too many folks here on FR have trouble reading...if they can read at all.
And this is why awful rumors get started here on FR. The non readers pick up from the non readers and keep spreading untruths as if the subject matter were true.
