Parents Fleeing San Francisco - City, Media in Denial About Why

by Sheri Urban

The S.F. Chronicle is reporting that San Francisco is losing families in droves and blames crowded schools, and lack of housing.

Despite San Francisco officials' efforts to keep families in the city, the percentage of children among the city's total population continues to decline....Just 13.4 percent of the city's 805,235 residents are younger than 18, one of the smallest percentages of any city in the country.
The school district has lost almost 7,000 kids over the past decade, down in 2010 to 53,033.
Why is it that families are fleeing San Francisco? Former DCF head under Gavin Newsom has the answer.
Margaret Brodkin, who worked as Newsom's head of the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families, called the census figures "beyond depressing." City Hall should be more aggressive on affordable housing issues, she said. Newsom's policy council on family flight recommended that the city require housing developers to include affordable, family-friendly units with bathtubs, large kitchens and closets, laundry facilities and access to the outdoors.
The fleeing families need larger kitchen, closets and laundry facilities? REALLY?
In 1960, children made up 25 percent of the city's population, versus just 13.4 percent today.
That is a massive drop in the number of children. One that simply cannot be accounted for by the so-called reasons for which the city and media are trying to convince themselves. Dozens of other cities are experiencing the same challenges and issues as is S.F. So why are parents fleeing in far greater numbers there than anywhere else? Could it be because of OTHER changes which have altered the city since 1960? Are city and media leaders really blind to what happens on their own streets year after year, with increasing extremism, driving the most anti-family environment in America?

Still not getting it? Here are a few little hints...

Perhaps the Lord’s way of removing children from the effects of what’s coming to that liberal, fag-infested hellhole.

Besides the perv factor, SF is an expensive city in which to live. It’s not affordable for young families.

The real reason is AIDS in elementary schools brought to school by kids with two daddies

San Francisco is expensive. It is crowded and dangerous. People smoke pot in public constantly. There are lots of criminals and crazy people hanging around. Many neighborhoods are quite dirty. The sodomy and fornication are very arrogant and public. The public schools are terrible. Public transportation is expensive, unreliable, dirty, and dangerous. It is not safe for kids to be anywhere in public without adult chaperones. San Francisco is a terrible place to raise kids.

Heh, I’ve always said that deliberately taking a child into San Fransicko constitutes child abuse.
The story says a lot about the parents who remain there.

I figured a lot of what you described went on but it really is NOT a great place, huh? It certainly doesn’t sound like a city where I would spend five minutes...

There's just something innate about the revulsion.

Well put.
I raised several children and I can tell you that they never bought the propaganda they heard in school, and it wasn't from me and my wife debriefing them - -it was because their revulsion to the propaganda was natural. When kids smirk and say, "That's so gay", they definitely mean it in a derogatory sense.

My son once came home from school - - this was in the late '90s - - and told me about an assembly where the kids were shown some movie about the Olympics, and who appears on the screen but Bill Clinton. The kids erupted in raucous laughter and my son told me the look on the teachers' collective faces was priceless.

That sounds like the natural breeding ground for Democrats like Nancy Pelosi.

Hmmm. Might also have something to do with the fact that homosexuals are moving in, and they don’t usually have kids. They are the ones who can afford the exorbitant housing costs in SF.

Gee, perhaps that San Francisco Considers Ban on Goldfish as Pets to Prevent Their 'Inhumane Suffering' Nah, that can't be it. Perhaps a clue can be found using a simple search phrase 'San Francisco bans' in a internet search engine yields the following: I cannot wait to see what San Francisco comes up with next. Maybe they'll ban sitting on the sidewalk between 11 P.M. & 7 A.M. No, wait, they've already done that. Will it ban eating with your mouth open? Will it criminalize jogging too slow (or perhaps too fast)? Will it require all males between 16 and 40 to grow their hair in the style of Tim Lincecum? Maybe it will ban earthquakes?

That's what's so wonderful about living in liberal utopia: liberty being guaranteed by a plethora of prohitions.

It depends on what you want.

It is a beautiful city. The architecture and vistas are world-famous. The weather is mild. There are great restaurants. It is compact and vibrant. There’s a good music scene. There are lots of interesting, creative, successful people here. There are many beautiful places within a couple hours drive.

It just isn’t much of a place to raise a family.

“It just isn’t much of a place to raise a family”.

I imagine it has some beautiful architecture but not the type of place for me! To be honest, the older that I get.. the more that I long for a smaller type town. Not miniscule but smaller than the urban/suburbs where I live.

I LOVE seeing this article. It is very disingenuous, for sure. But the fact that they are exploring the reasons for families fleeing SF simply says what is happening: Families are indeed fleeing SF and for good, moral reasons. Who would want to raise their children at Ground Zero in the Land of Fruits and Nuts?? In Bathhouse Central?? With the pampered homeless defacating on the sidewalk or on your property??

Go ahead, Gavin. Make your ridiculous excuses that even you do not believe. SF: The Homeland of the Entitled Vagarant/Bum/Panhandler....the lazy dregs of life. Put that in your C of C brochures.

I can’t stand the overall atmosphere in San Fran. I would never consider living there with children.

The Libs have a big surprise in store when they see what a place without the major influence of traditional families becomes.
