Los Angeles -- Gov. Jerry Brown's veto today of the state budget adopted by Democratic legislators on Wednesday marks the first time in state history a governor has rejected a spending plan.
The governor made his announcement this morning in an online video, then spoke to reporters at a news conference in Los Angeles this afternoon, where he said he vetoed the budget "because it doesn't meet the needs of the state."
"Whatever happens, we will get a better budget than we have today," he added.
Democratic leaders of the Senate and Assembly held a news conference at the Capitol and said they were "deeply dismayed" by Brown's action, repeatedly emphasizing that Brown had "failed" to win Republican support for his budget plan. They called on the Democratic governor to present a specific proposal of what he wants to see in a budget if he is unable to win Republican support.

In his video message, the governor said he vetoed the budget, "reluctantly, but with clear purpose."
"California is facing a fiscal crisis and very strong medicine must be taken," said Brown, who added that he vetoed the plan "because I don't want to see more billions of borrowing, legal maneuvers that are questionable and a budget that will not stand the test of time."
A veto letter released a short time later said the budget plan is not balanced and is "not financeable," which means the state would be unable to borrow the necessary money needed each year for cash flow and other purposes. The conclusion that the budget was problematic was reached by the governor after consultation with the Department of Finance, the state treasurer's office and the state controller's office, according to a spokesman for the treasurer.

No matter, it will be reported that it is the Republicans fault and the reason California is in the mess its in.
Ha! They knew he would veto it. They just had to get SOMETHING to him by then if they wanted to keep getting a paycheck.
That really is it in a nutshell.
Moonbeam wants Republican fingerprints on the unionized stinkbomb blobocracy that the Dems have delivered to the taxpayers of this state for far too many years.
For what? To achieve a socialist utopia,, All just part of the multi-pronged attack by liberals , loonies and luddites that inhabit the hills and valleys of this Goldarn’d State.
Unexpected, too
Look for the prison guard’s union to deposit a horse’s head on the corner of Brown’s bed
Not that I know much about California but I would think the biggest and easiest target of budget reducers would be the millions of Illegals. But will they shoot for that.
(Violent rhetoric not from Sarah Palin.)
When Brown was elected last year, I predicted he’d be a thorn in the Democrats sides too at times. He’s a curmudgeon.
Well, welcome to reality Democrats.
I actuaually agree with Brown’s take on the excessive spending angle. Sadly, he undoubtedly sees taxation as the fix.
No Jerry, cut the spending.
You know they keep saying that California has 3.something million illegals. If that is true they are all in my city. Went to the mall Sunday ( first time in about 2 yrs). Driving through the parking lot I saw 2, yes 2 white people. The rest were Mexican. Went in a backdoor to Penney’s and there was nothing in there but Mexicans. I was in line behind people in the shoe department who couldn’t speak English and were using their maybe twelve year old son to communicate. He spoke perfect English. How is it that people can be here long enough to have a 12 yr old son that speaks perfect English but they still can’t communicate?
That was my last trip to the mall. As a matter of fact I will just stay home and avoid them all.

A bill so bad even brown couldn’t spin it.

My first business foray here in Hollywood was as consultant for an anti-virus co. in DT LA. I would demonstrate to our staff on how to effectively communicate with customers.
Whenever I spoke with a Spanish-speaking patron, they would ALWAYS have their kids speak back to me in English. Obviously, it was frustrating but they were smarter because they knew how to handle a pc, which is our industry.
And the interesting part? Our staff were next generation Mex-Americans and they did NOT know how to speak Spanish. I learned eventually that their parents wanted them to learn English FIRST to get ahead in life...go figger’
They don’t need Republican “support”. They just need to pass a budget instead of BS and they can get the Republicans they need to vote for it.
When the checks won't cash the cities will burn.
It's coming soon.
Who is in worse shape? California ? Greece?
Greece is trivial compared to California.
Looks like MoonBeam did the ‘One flew over the cuckcoos nest’ stunt there at the Sacto asylum for insane legislator liberals.
