Wholesale prices rise at slower pace in May

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — U.S. wholesale prices rose in May at the slowest pace in 10 months as the cost of food fell and the increase in energy prices tapered off, the government reported Tuesday.

Food costs dropped 1.4% last month, owing mainly to lower vegetable prices, to mark the biggest one-month decline in almost a year. The price of food has fallen twice in the past three months, although food costs are still 3.9% higher compared to one year ago.

Energy prices, meanwhile, rose 1.5% in May, the slowest rate since September. A surge in fuel costs have push wholesale prices sharply higher since last fall, but oil prices have pulled back over the past month. Many economists expect the modest decline in oil prices to ease pressure on wholesale costs.

Retail prices aren’t slowing. They are shooting up.

I noticed some 15-40% prices increases on many items just in the last 30 days.

The only items I saw that actually went down in prices were Roma tomatoes and gas, which down about 20-cents.

BLUF - Another case where the “official” government approved report doesn't seem to match reality.

What a bunch of B.S. At worse a lie at best a case of selective buying.

I just came back from Walkout and a pint of milk is up 34 cents over what it was a year ago.

I don't know about the rest of you but I didn't get a 33% raise over the last 15 months so I had to make cuts somewhere - already on a diet. Buying in bulk doesn't make sense for a party of one.

Please note the report reported the drop in fresh vegetable prices - of course those prices dropped the harvest season has begun. Does anyone think that the prices aren't going to go up in six months after the harvest is in and warehouses have exhausted their stocks?

“Energy prices, meanwhile, rose 1.5% in May, the slowest rate since September.”

In Californicator land, we saw gas prices dropping the week before Memorial Day with a signficant drop in the final week of May.

That decreased the cost of shipping everything and put a few more coins in our pockets and the merchants.

This an an absolute lie, the is more Left Wing nonsense by paid propagandists.

Food is increasing in price, every week it seems.

I got a bottle of apple juice for my son last week, it was $3.50, this Sunday, the same exact bottle was $4.29.

These politicians and Soros-Obamabots-MSM liars are merely trying to prop up the welfare state until 11/2012 then the collapse will happen.

Exactly, total gov’t BS. Commodities across the board are up staggering amounts—30-70% during the last year.

Do not buy apple juice—90% comes from China and much of that is from cull apples bought from the US and other countries. Pesticide residues are rampant in China food products.

Correct and that is why more folks are turning to couponing. It's called "survival."

It doesn’t have to be “organic,” it just has to meet reasonable safety standards and the chinese don’t do that.
