Ten Years And Counting: Where’s The Global Warming?
Forbes ^ | Jun. 8 2011 | James Taylor (no, not THAT James Taylor)

Posted on 06/09/2011 1:45:35 PM PDT by presidio9

Global greenhouse gas emissions have risen even faster during the past decade than predicted by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other international agencies. According to alarmist groups, this proves global warming is much worse than previously feared. The increase in emissions “should shock even the most jaded negotiators” at international climate talks currently taking place in Bonn, Germany, the UK Guardian reports. But there’s only one problem with this storyline; global temperatures have not increased at all during the past decade.

The evidence is powerful, straightforward, and damning. NASA satellite instruments precisely measuring global temperatures show absolutely no warming during the past the past 10 years. This is the case for the Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes, including the United States. This is the case for the Arctic, where the signs of human-caused global warming are supposed to be first and most powerfully felt. This is the case for global sea surface temperatures, which alarmists claim

Yep. All that ice cap melting has put the entire Florida Keys under water.

That scientific journal Sports Illustrated in March of 2007 said it WOULD happen.

The next time a ball game gets rained out during the September stretch run, you can curse the momentary worthlessness of those tickets in your pocket. Or you can wonder why it got rained out -- and ask yourself why practice had to be called off last summer on a day when there wasn't a cloud in the sky; and why that Gulf Coast wharf where you used to reel in mackerel and flounder no longer exists; and why it's been more than one winter since you pulled those titanium skis out of the garage.

Global warming is not coming; it is here. Greenhouse gases -- most notably carbon dioxide produced by burning coal, oil and gas -- are trapping solar heat that once escaped from the Earth's atmosphere. As temperatures around the globe increase, oceans are warming, fields are drying up, snow is melting, more rain is falling, and sea levels are rising.

Global warming is alive and well with Gingrich and Romney ans so many politicians, it might as well be real. They’re all determined on redistributing wealth.

Global warming is the religion of kooks and intellectuals, despite all evidence to the contrary. I just wish they would stop evangelizing us with it.

Just as liberal swine say “Birthers” to those who question the veracity of Obama’s birth certificate - we need to start calling these people “Warmers”

that is a great great chart in post 2.

notice how incredibly constant the CO2 reading is?

yet many countries reported serious drops in CO2,
because of the recession, in 2008-9.

yet, there is NO drop in Hawaii.

...also, that is the ONLY place in the world, where you can get a record of CO2. no “second opinion” possible.

but, if you look at old chemical Co2 measurements, going back to the 1800’s... you see a wide variation, that has NO correlation to human activity. and, the Co2 was HIGHER back then. is has actually gone down, since the 19th century.

...yet another way, they are fudging data, to “hide the decline”.

please look at the charts on page 4 and 5 here. and you will see why the AGW people like Gore, ONLY use Moana Loa Hawaii now. and just TRY to find newer chemical measurements...

If I had ever had a subscription to a rag like SI, this would have convinced me to cancel it. The interweb killed off most major sportsmags. Those that remain are forced carve their living from "expert" commentary instead of actual information. If you are interested right now, in how goes Jeter's quest for 3000, or how the sinus infection is will effect Nowitzki in game 5, that information is available on any number of commercial and amateur websites. Thus, we are left with (mostly) liberal opinion pieces in the print magazines. No thanks.

You know that Global Warming is just an out-of-date fad when the baseball player selected for the cover of SI to show how sea levels are going to rise is has-been, former flash-in-the-pan Dontrelle Willis. As Cher would say in Clueless, “Global Warming and Dontrelle Willis are SOOO 2006.”

The chart on p.5 is interesting (CO2 from 1812 to 2004). It shows a peak starting about 1812. There were multiple major volcanic eruptions starting about then, culminating in the Tambora eruption and the Year Without Summer. One of the coldest years on record and the CO2 concentration was extremely high.

I hear you. I don't even read it in the doctor/dentist office anymore.

In the waiting room I just pull out my trusty Droid and cruise around FR, check the weather, check the scores and standings, work crosswords, etc.

What’s all this about glow ball worming? How do the worms get in there? What balls are we talking about and why do they glow?

I’m so confuse!

READ this at the source....

"CO2 levels in the atmosphere have continued to rise over the last 10 years (see overlay to temperature comparison below in Figure 3) but temperatures have not risen since 2000. This implies that CO2 is not the main driver of global temperatures on these time periods and that other natural mechanisms are at least as important. No evidence of any positive temperature feedback with increasing CO2 levels is found.

Just like the Spotted Owl fiasco in the Northwest that shut down logging.....(they recently admitted it was the Barred Owl that was decimating the population)....these people latched onto CO2.....if we let them win on this...they WILL shut down everything they can....ICLEI has a video on their website of how they want us all to live....it ain't pretty....slums of India or highrises in Brazil....

Why do warmists insist that warming has to mean inhabitable land area decreases, being turned into desert? What about formerly snow covered areas which become arable, as areas of Greenland did centuries ago? Why wouldn’t a moderately warmer earth see more terrestrial rainfall rather than less?

Not constant at all. There is that annual wiggle, down every spring and up every fall. A large wiggle that is 3-4x the size of the annual increase. That is partly the growing season in the NH with uptake in the spring and CO2 release in the fall. The other cause of the same wiggle is the cooling of the oceans in the SH every SH fall and winter (our spring and summer). That cooler water absorbs more CO2. The opposite happens in their spring and summer (warming releases CO2) which lines up with the our fall and winter release of CO2 from dead vegetation (releases are relatively quick as leaves turn brown).

That completely explains the wiggle but also indicates that Mauna Loa is a worldwide indicator, not some local fluke. It does have local fluctuations from the volcano but those have been removed in the chart above. Daily and weekly averages are shown here: http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/weekly.html which is pretty raw, but still shows the wiggle.
