Gay rights campaigners have urged mosque leaders in east London to ban homophobic clerics from using their premises, following a 21% rise in gay hate crime in the area.

Activists, including journalist Julie Bindel and Pride trustee Colm Howard-Lloyd, said some preachers at the East London Mosque and the London Muslim Centre had "created an atmosphere in which hate is socially acceptable; they have spread a message in which maiming and violence is the most dutiful, honourable, devout thing to do".

Their concerns follow the £100 fine given to Mohammed Hasnath, who put up "Gay-Free Zone" stickers in the area;

Incidentally, the liberal press blamed the murder of Sister Leonella on Pope Benedict's accurate comments on Islam made on 12 September 2006 in Regensburg Germany. Muslims around the world had been rioting and killing people for a week to mark the anniversary of this cartoon (Muslims have long memories for grievance) but the left decided to blame the Pope, and so it gets recorded in Wikipedia, and presumably for history.

I absolutely laugh out loud when I think of how effective the gay community will be in convincing a religion that supports stoning the woman in a adulterous affair but not the man, stoning rape victims but not the rapists, allowing honor killings of women for any reason, chopping off heads, hands, and feet for any number of offenses, killing anyone who will not convert to their religion, and hanging homosexuals in other countries.
