(Reuters) - A group of Florida physicians filed a federal lawsuit on Monday seeking to overturn a new state law that limits doctors' ability to ask patients about guns in the home.
The lawsuit, filed in Miami federal court, says the new law is an unconstitutional ban on physicians' free speech and prevents them from counseling patients on firearm safety.

Haven’t been asked such ....yet.
But my answer will be to eat shit an bark at the moon as it is none of their business as you state.
It was a million to one shot, doc!
If my doctor asked me questions about guns in my home, I’d tear him a new butthole big enough to shove a Marlin lever action in sideways.
Doubt he’d ask twice...
By extension of their logic, your plumber should be able to ask you who your cell phone provider is, or your dentist can ask how often you are intimate with your spouse, and it’s all constitutionally protected free speech.
“The law also bars practitioners from entering the information into a patient’s medical record.”
Given that patient medical records aren’t exactly private from the government, this part of the law is critical.
What training do doctors have on giving advice on firearms? Unless specifically trained, they risk the same kind of responsibility that people that give bad financial advice end up dealing with.
Sorry but doctors have no freaking business going down this road.
And that too!
LOL!
I go to a chiropractor on occasion. The last time, we’re making small talk in an exam room. Chiro looks at me funny and says “ You pack a Keltec , dontcha”?
Me: “Yup”
Chiro: “Wait right here”!
He leaves the room for a minute. Comes back with a holster in his hand...
Chiro: “Look at this Ruger I got. How do they get away with copying the Keltec like this”?
We compared pistols, magazines, finishes, bullets. We did everything but go out back to fire them...
And I reserve the right to discuss the physician’s malpractice insurance claims experience.
I would argue that they can ask. You don’t need to answer.
And, you certainly don’t need to patronise those who ask. Yet.
I didn’t know that! I hereby recant my previous post. I am WAY for this law!
You hear about this happening a lot, but I have yet to see one documented case.
Your reason is the same reason I didn’t want the law to pass. I’d rather know up front if my doc is a lib nut.
Doctors should be allowed to discuss guns with their patients - if they complete an NRA training course and receive proper certification.
If I went to a doctor and he asked me if I owned a gun, I would say, uh, do you? Now mind your own business.
“... I have yet to see one documented case”.
You mean of a doctor asking his patient if they own firearms?
It isn't? What subjects of conversation are you comfortable with the government forbidding in your workplace?
Duh. Free speech isn't just for those we agree with. Duh.
Our answers will be put into the obamacare database.
Just a “go round the constitution” way of gun registration.
You will have to pay higher premiums (health AND home)because of the “risk”.
(...and then they’ll probably make your neighbors home insurance go up because they live next to a “gun owner”, just to “stir the (gun grabbing) pot”.)
