House Democrats this week have amplified their calls for new spending on infrastructure and other federal projects in the face of May's discouraging job-creation figures.
Even as Republicans are insisting on "trillions" of dollars in spending cuts, Democrats maintain that a targeted injection of additional federal dollars in the near-term would go a long way toward reversing the hiring slump. Friday's disappointing job report, they say, only bolsters their case.
"The American people, while concerned about the deficit, place much more emphasis on job creation, and they see a role for the government," Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) told The Hill. "A fast injection of job stimulus on the public side would help tremendously. It [the job report] helps our argument about investment."
Other Democrats delivered a similar message on Friday. Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) said "the answer" to the lingering jobs crisis is "investment" in the "communities and businesses who need confidence and resources to hire [people]."
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said "investing in our communities goes hand in hand with full economic recovery."

Hey, it didn’t work before so let’s try it again!
Oh yes, more shovel ready projects. Good thing my shovel is still ready to go!
Let’s see once again, what is the definition of insanity?
First, we cut congressional salaries in half
Then we “invest” those savings into bridges named after members of congress
Steve Martin: Whoa, you're in really bad shape. Looks like we're going to have to bleed you.
Bill Murray: But I'm already bleeding.
Martin: Hey, who's the barber here?
Obama institutes policies to "Fundamentally Transform America".
Women and Minorities hardest hit.
La Raza’s boy in Washington, Raul Grijalva. LOL!
more deficit spending means higher taxes on the very businesses the dems claim to want to help. They are bribing these people with their own money.
Time to lay low. This isn’t going to end well.
Kick out the illegal immigrants, and replace them with real Americans.
Three things will happen immediately - more CITIZENS will be employed (lowering the unemployment rate), more taxes will be collected (since illegals pay NO income tax), and welfare rolls will be reduced.
And as an added bonus, crime will go down!
Win-win-win-win. Hard to beat that!!!
I’m in favor of that since I’ve been looking for work for one year 6/1. It seems to me that the people displaced are more citizens of this country than illegal aliens
These people are completely insane, or so out of touch with reality they do not know what day it is,Rats are NOT known for brainpower or achievement!
It’s so obvious that dem leaders want to destroy this country. And their followers and junior representatives follow along.
I know lots of people who would love to have a job. But most of the people who get jobs working on the infrastructure are Hispanic. And most of them are probably illegal.
Last year didn’t get out much (surgery/recovery) so I lost sight of it, but yesterday I found my D-handle shovel ~ still good, still ready.
The dems are playing the Martingale Betting System.
Good luck to us.
yeah, that old communist grijalva almost lost his seat last November to a TEA party candidate. it gave him quite a shock and he’d STFU for a while. looks like he’s back to his old self again.
I’d like to start budgeting from a zero baseline. I’d settle for starting from $1.835T in the last Clinton budget (2001) plus inflation for $2.332T in federal spending next year, which almost exactly matches expected federal revenue. To start from a budget with a deficit over $1T and add to that? No way. That massively wasteful spending is the problem, not the solution.
