(Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday ceremonially signed a bill making Texas the twelfth state to require photo identification from voters.
"Today we take a major step forward in ensuring the integrity of our electoral process in Texas, a major step protecting the most cherished right that we enjoy as a people," Perry, joined by lawmakers who supported the legislation, told reporters.
The measure was one of the Republican governor's "emergency" legislative priorities for the session, and he's not alone. Republicans across the country are pushing such legislation. This year, more than 30 states have considered adding or strengthening voter identification requirements, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Photo ID requirements were signed into law in Wisconsin this week and in South Carolina earlier this month. Kansas also passed a photo ID measure this year that goes into effect January 1.
The requirement is already in place in Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan and South Dakota. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton on Thursday vetoed a photo identification bill.

Every time... EVERY time he starts seeing the next election... he suddenly swings right, and people all over this great state who dont pay attention except in the months leading up to the election only ever see his faux conservative act. He IS a RINO. If he's a Rino we need more like him...

I’ve worker the polls here in Texas for the past 3 elections, and I must say, a good number of people show both their registration card and drivers license, and when they’re told they don’t need to show their ID, they’re in disbelief. And I’m with them.
Glad this was passed, and I really hope his doesn’t get struck down by some liberal judge before next november.

Now we have to find a way to make sure elections results are
ALL RELEASED AT THE SAME TIME!
No more waiting for the urban centers to report their results last.....

If he's a Rino we need more like him... Perry recently excoriated Arizona's "radical" anti-immigration law. Enough said.

A photo voter ID (with one other form of ID for solid proof on election day) should be law in all 50 states and U.S. territories, but the thoroughly corrupt Dems continue throwing up ‘legal’ roadblocks to keep their massive voter fraud going.

Ain't gonna work—A Democrat crook can make a fake picture ID out of an old crinkled index card as long as the picture pasted on it is one of John Wayne from the movie "The Alamo" -that done, the average Texas poll operator will let him vote as many times as he likes.
Texans are great Americans but they are as flaky as really old steer flop when it comes to stuff like that.

He is beginning to look the most plausible among some mediocre alternatives. I was surprised to learn he actually wore the uniform of his country...very unusual among younger GOP candidates.
