U.S. Adults Estimate That 25% of Americans Are Gay or Lesbian

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. adults, on average, estimate that 25% of Americans are gay or lesbian. More specifically, over half of Americans (52%) estimate that at least one in five Americans are gay or lesbian, including 35% who estimate that more than one in four are. Thirty percent put the figure at less than 15%.

The findings, from a Gallup poll conducted May 5-8, 2011, mark the second time Gallup has asked Americans to estimate the gay population. In 2002, Gallup used two separate questions to ask Americans to estimate the percentage of gay men and lesbians. At that time, Americans estimated that 21% of men were gay and that 22% of women were lesbian. Twice as many did not offer an opinion as do now.

There is little reliable evidence about what percentage of the U.S. population is in reality gay or lesbian, due to few representative surveys asking about sexual orientation, complexities surrounding the groups and definitions involved, and the probability that some gay and lesbian individuals may not choose to identify themselves as such. Demographer Gary Gates last month released a review of population-based surveys on the topic, estimating that 3.5% of adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual, with bisexuals making up a slight majority of that figure. Gates also disputes the well-circulated statistic that "10% of the males are more or less exclusively homosexual."

Americans' current collective estimate -- which is substantially higher than Gates suggests -- is likely driven more by perceptions and exposure than by scientific measurement or reality.

Before slamming Gallup, think about this: people's perceptions are shaped by what they are exposed to. The MSM is a constant barrage of homosexuality as being the norm and very, very, very common.

In other words, the brainwashing of America continues unabated.

In regards to these polling results:

The biggest shortfall that I see in this poll is that they ask people, Just your best guess, what percent of Americans today would you say are gay or lesbian?

They should have also asked: Out of the people who you actually know, how many of them are gay or lesbian?

Of course, the latter would not be an effective measure of how people are being brainwashed by the culture.

I used to ask people these kind of questions and I remember that many Americans believe that about 33% of us are Jewish, and they used to think that about 33 to 40% were black.

More like 1.5%. Once you remove the young females who think it is cool to say they are bisexual.

Now why would gay activists want a 7X overestimation of their numbers? Because three and a half million gay Americans out of 300 million Americans isn’t shit - but twenty five million gay Americans would make them a powerful voting block.

I agree, the 3.5% estimate sounds much more real but making it a phony 25% further promotes the homo agenda. Wait till they say its 50%, meaning half your siblings and one of your parents are gay:)

AS already posted - this “survey” just backs up the brainwashing that is being carried out by both the MSM and public schools.

The reality - the actual percentage of “genuine” (boy - there’s a misnomer) homosexuals in the US is around 1%. Of course, there are certain areas of the country where the actual % of population that is homosexual is far higher - and one might wonder if the geographic location of those polled had something to do with their perception...

But you see - something that God calls an abomination is rather difficult to justify or play off if only 1% fit that “lifestyle choice”. But when the public can be lied to enough that they begin believing that it is “normal” and “common”, then you can start to claim special rights.

Homosexuality is a CHOICE based on environmental and moral influence. Choice should’t qualify one for special or extra rights/protections.

The lower the educational level and the lower income, the higher the estimate of how many homosexuals are out there.

My guess is that if you plotted "how many hours of TV do you watch a week" versus "what percentage of America do you think is gay" it would be darn near a perfect correlation.

I think the reason for the high numbers is the barrage of crap on TV and the rise in numbers of (straight or gay) what I consider weak effeminate men and their attitudes. (Largely due to dad not being around)

Surprised it’s that low. Watched Grey’s Anatomy the other night (actually my wife was, but I caught one scene). I think one gay character was going to get “married”, but her mother wouldn’t come because she disagreed with her lifestyle. Well another character told to not get too upset about it, that it was just taking some time for her mother to catch up to god. My jaw just dropped because I never watch most of what’s on TV. Hell’s media is in high gear.
