Student defies ACLU at graduation, leads public prayer

A student who objected to prayer being part of Bastrop High School's 2011 graduation ceremonies enlisted the help of the American Civil Liberties Union. However, another student whose role was to call for a moment of silence during Friday's ceremony led the audience in prayer despite the ACLU objections.

I’ve been working with tribes for 5 years now, and I have yet to attend even the smallest gathering that did not begin with Christian prayers and pledge to the flag, and end in Christian prayers. I would not be surprised in the near future to see the ACLU have the cops (or even a SWAT team) at a graduation ceremony when the valedictorian does the same thing. The thugs-with-badges will take that valedictorian down and beat the snot out of him/or, charge him with obstructing an officer, resisting arrest and a variety of others, and then do a little asset forfeiture of the student’s car, his parent’s house, shoot the dog, arrest the parents, and anything else they can get hold of.

And will the cops be held accountable? Not on your life! They are immune from prosecution for just about everything.

And if this happens in Indiana and the student resists? I’m not even going to go there.

The ACLU idea of a "minority" doesn't get much beyond the Vanguard of the Proletariat (the small hard core body of true believing communists who keep everybody else in line by killing those who speak out).

If the ACLU could get away with it they'd have this young woman drawn, quartered and have her parts thrown into the fields for the wild dogs.

These people do not have the interests of the broad masses in mind.

In my opinion, yes. Atheism is itself a religion that requires much faith. More faith that it takes to believe in God, since they can’t expect answers to their prayers.

Please rethink what you posted. There are plenty of conservative STRAIGHT atheists out there. I applaud what this woman did. She expressed her first amendment rights as an individual and the ACLU was wrong about this like they usually are. I might disagree with people on religion, but I never throw it in their face. If I am visiting relatives and they would like me to go to Church with them, I do. This is out of respect for their beliefs in the Lord.

BTW, the only reason I voted R in ‘08 was because of Palin.....don't p*** on your friends.

It just does not make sense to me. Why does this student not go to private Christian school? My parents wanted to ensure that we could pray ALL DAY LONG if we so chose and sent us to Catholic School for my entire life. What is wrong with these parents?????? I can’t imagine forcing a public school to say a prayer.....of course I have never been in a public school so I don’t know anything about them but it just seems strange that the parents didn’t send the kids to private school.

Next year they will have the Islamic call to prayers. The number one student at the school is a Muslim in the Junior Class and that is what this young person is going to do. I just wonder if you will be equally as happy. I just wonder why that was left out of the story. Next year will be interesting although most likely nothing will be said until closer to June 2012.
