White House shuts out (Boston) Herald scribe
Boston Herald ^ | May 18, 2011 | Hillary Chabot

Posted on 05/18/2011 3:28:46 AM PDT by Virginia Ridgerunner

The White House Press Office has refused to give the Boston Herald full access to President Obama’s Boston fund-raiser today, in e-mails objecting to the newspaper’s front page placement of a Mitt Romney op-ed, saying pool reporters are chosen based on whether they cover the news “fairly.”

“I tend to consider the degree to which papers have demonstrated to covering the White House regularly and fairly in determining local pool reporters,” White House spokesman Matt Lehrich wrote in response to a Herald request for full access to the presidential visit.

“My point about the op-ed was not that you ran it but that it was the full front page, which excluded any coverage of the visit of a sitting US President to Boston. I think that raises a fair question about whether the paper is unbiased in its coverage of the President’s visits,” Lehrich wrote.

Putin has his critics killed.

Obama hasn't done that.

Yet.

Like so many things that the Narcissist In Chief does, the Media as a whole simply allow to pass without comment. Sure, the Hearald is squawking right now, but in a few months they’ll be back to toeing the line for the ‘rats across the board, as they always do.

I long for the day that the gutless Republicans treat the Media in the same way as the ‘rats. And when they squawk about it indignantly, tell them, “Well, you didn’t seem to care when the last administration did this. We have an established precedent to do this. Why are you angry now?”

There was a liberal who made a documentry about Bush on his quest to become POTUS.
He treated her very fair, answering her questions and even throwing her a birthday party on the bus.
He did get pissed when she reported something that was supposted to be off the record, but he forgave her in time
Bush had his faults, but he was a big enough man to face his enemies, unlike Obama who cowards and bans them.

It is also important to understand the context of the Boston press where the Globe (fish wrap and lead paper) is decidedly liberal. It's not like Obama is not getting positive press in the Bay State. And they are punishing the reporter for an editorial / publisher decision.

I suggest "big, bad president so ready to make a "gutsy call" can't face a reporter with tough questions? wimpy call!!!"

WOW!

The Obama admin is a complete mess. They act like partisan hacks. It took them how long to NOT attack Fox News and try to ban them? (The only reason they stopped was because other media outlets spoke up)

“Did we somehow elect Vladimir Putin as President?”

No, Putin is one smart, tough guy who loves his home country. Openly loves his home country.

Purcell is a former Murdoch guy.

I wonder if there is a lot of corporate layering ...and Purcell or even Murdoch are still associated with it in some way.

"White House spokesman Matt Lehrich "

White House spokesman Matt Lehrich will be blamed and publically said to have MISSPOKE and thrown under the bus. OR is the Obama WH such a mess that they will back this? Jealous of a Romney Op Ed? How petty and childish they're partisan hackery IS SHOWING AGAIN!

“I tend to consider the degree to which papers have demonstrated to covering the White House regularly and fairly in determining local pool reporters,”

If President Bush had done that, there would be no more than one or two journalists at his press events.

Obama is a thin skinned tyrant-punk.

-- did Bush refuse access to any reporters or news groups? --

Of course he did. I don't know of an exact parallel with today's story but ...

Secret Service Not Coddling Hecklers - WaPo - September 10, 2004
In Control - American Journalism Review - Feb/March 2005 (not on outright denial of access, but on the silent treatment)

Vlad would be better than ZERO . . . .

He'd be more smarter and more competent than 0 but that wouldn't necessarily mean better.

Thank God for the enemies we have.

No, this was more the style back then....

"There's Adam Clymer -- major league asshole -- from the New York Times," Bush said. "Yeah, big time," returned Cheney.

In Feb. 2002, I attended a town hall meeting in Ontario, CA and got to ask an “unscripted” question. No one asked me what I was going to ask.
