U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine) disagrees with the Navy's decision to name a cargo ship under construction in San Diego for California farm labor leader Cesar Chavez. The decision, announced Tuesday, "appear[s] to be more about making a political statement than upholding the Navy's history and tradition," Hunter said in press release....

Gee. I wonder if anyone actually bothered to check how Chavez felt about the Navy...
"Chávez described his experience in the military as the two worst years of my life.
Cesar Chevez was gay?
Considering how Chavez felt about the military, he must be doing a few turns about now.
All those in the military today, are unfortunately under the command of politically correct socialist.
more insanity
This is strictly an ass-kiss to hispanics. Political correctness at its most base. There are hispanics for whom the ship could have been named — if the purpose was to name a ship after an hispanic — but they were not union rabble rousers, so obviously they were not considered.
If this makes you ill, imagine how you’ll feel if they ever name one after the current resident of the WH.
A cargo ship?
I suppose the nickname will be ‘lettuce.’
THANK YOU!
At least there is one man in the government with some common sense and the guts to speak the truth.
Swell, Mabus can park it next to the USS John P. Murtha.
Too late. They’re naming something after Zero. I just read it a couple days ago.
first queers and now this, OK who ever gets into power next needs to throw out any officer who is pushing this PC crap and get back to a Navy which means to kill and serve.
BTW will these Admirals now shower and share rooms with these sex deviants?
Hunter was correct in his critique.
It probably will be now! LOL!

Obama, pelosi, and reid got the ship named after him. Next up will be the USS Obama, and the USS Bill Ayers.
(Washington, D.C., 5/14/11) In an announcement quietly released on Friday evening, it was announced by an anonymous source within the administration the Navy's newest aircraft carrier, currently designated CVN-69 and scheduled for commissioning in 2019 will be called the USS Barack Obama.
The statement read in part, "A president such as Barack Obama, will be dutifully and respectfully honored by having CVN-69 named for him. His courage, honor, honesty and ability to effectively lead this nation through hard times brought upon us by previous Republican administrations to unparalleled prosperity and record numbers on government assistance ensuring thousands of federal government jobs are the hallmarks of a great President deserving of every accolade which can be given.
We are also pleased to announce that CVN-69 will be manned by the first all gay crew on board a U.S. Navy vessel in honor of Obamas commitment to allow gays in the military. We will be making some adjustments to the vessel in order to ensure a happy gay crew such as a small wedding chapel in the rear of the ship as well as double-wide bunks that can easily accommodate up to 3 sailors. The crews lounge will be renamed the Frolic Area and will be in the rear next to the wedding chapel. Other adjustments are under discussion such as an onboard florist and a hair stylist.
"One other thing, CVN-70, scheduled for commissioning in 2023 is tentatively named the USS Michele Obama."
Developing..
What a FU%$&N JOKE!!
The Navy is run by a bunch of panty waisted politicians. I understand that they have to do what their political bosses say but they do not fight these lame a$$ ideas.
More insanity is right.
Lewis and Clark (TAKE-1) class cargo and ammunition ships are usually named for noted explorers and pioneers of various kinds.
Chavez does not fit the bill.
Of course we do have San Antonio (LPD-17) class amphibious ships usually named for U.S. cities ... and then we got LPD-26 named for the late Representative John P. Murtha.
Political Correctness ... Socialist Correctness has taken over.
