In an exclusive interview, Lt. Col. Terry Lakin spoke to the Gazette this afternoon, following his release from prison at Ft. Leavenworth, after serving a six month sentence.
Lakin, a former Greeley resident said at his courtmartial he felt he had no choice but to disobey orders after attempting for more than a year to get answers from his chain of command regarding the president's eligibility to be commander in chief.
Lakin was in good spirits following his release today. After exiting a white van, he met his brother Greg. Using a laptop, he called his wife and children on Skype.
Lakin will be returning home tomorrow at his home in Baltimore around 10:30 a.m. Those desiring to meet Terry are encouraged to pre-register at the Terry Lakin Action Fund website to help them provide accurate counts to airport security teams.
He expressed praise for his wife, Pili for supporting him. "My wife has just been incredible during this time. I can't love her enough."
During the trial Lakin pleaded guilty for disobeying orders. He admitted that regardless of the eligibility issue he was wrong to do so. Some have used these statements to claim Lakin was admitting the claims of the eligibility movement were wrong.
The Gazette asked Lakin if he was still convinced of the validity of our Constitutional form of government and the need to abide by the Constitution. He stated that he believes "the Constitution is the most important document that holds our country together and the tenets of the Constitution need to be followed."
While in prison Lakin took time to read many of America's founding documents and the writings of our founding fathers. During his time in prison he said he has become more aware of the influence of Christianity on the nation's founding. While reading these documents, he was stunned to learn the extent to which current history lessons scrub references as to how the Bible and Christianity influenced our founding fathers.
Lakin said he is currently reading "Christianity and the Constitution." Some of the other books he read were C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity" and the "Screwtape Letters" and books by Charles Colson.
He stated that during his time in prison he received many letters from supporters that encouraged him. Other inmates were astonished to see Lakin receive letters from total strangers. He wished to express thanks to everyone for all the prayers and support he has received.
Following Lakin's court martial, the media began to take notice of the eligibility issue. Chris Matthews, who described himself as "an enemy of the birthers" called for Obama to release his long form birth certificate. This was part of the beginning of the media acknowledging that the certification of live birth released by the campaign was not the full certificate.
Other media figures began to ask questions about the issue. Dean Singleton, owner of the Denver Post said the president's eligibility was a legitimate issue. Donald Trump, who stated he was considering a run for president began to press for the president to release his birth certificate.
Following a poll showing that only 38 percent of the American people were convinced Obama was definitely born in the US, and an upcoming book titled "Where's the birth Certificate" skyrocketing to number one on Amazon.com before it was even released; Obama reluctantly released a long form birth certificate.
The release of the certificate still did not answer all of the questions. Some have alleged the document has been altered and could be a forgery. WorldNetDaily reported similar markings on the certificate released by the administration and a fake Kenyan birth certificate.
Other questions have arisen regarding the definition of "natural born citizen." This question has not been adequately decided by the courts. Lakin's case has heightened the need for this issue to be resolved prior to the next presidential election.

He will never be vindicated, the worthless media in this country will see to that. EFF ‘EM
Croc’s have a nastier disposition. Just so we don’t follow Obama’s advice and use gators....I never could remember which was the worse of the 2 until I came up with the saying. Alligators are ALLright. Croc’s are CRANKY. Its tough betting old....:O(
A man of principles. Run for Congress.
I really hope he comes out swinging at the “new” long form BC.
Would be poetic justice for him to dethrone Trump as the birther candidate.
I’d vote for him. I might even vote for him if he went into the 2012 presidential primary. A man that is willing to risk imprisonment to do right by the country will be a strong and a moral leader.
Geeez I just cannot stand those computer generated voiceovers on youtube.... couldn’t watch more than 20 seconds of it.
Have faith. Truth can always be vindicated. The MSM’s power is not limitless.
Yeah! Lt. Lakin is a true American hero who stood up for truth. Welcome home Lieutenant Lakin.
Whichever Republican gets elected POTUS in 2012 needs to pardon Terry Lakin on his first day in office.
Then Lakin could run for POTUS in some election down the road.
“Then Lakin could run for POTUS in some election down the road.”
Or Surgeon General in the next Administration in 2012.
I agree 100%. A Republican President should do the job. Grey Eagle.
While reading these documents, he was stunned to learn the extent to which current history lessons scrub references as to how the Bible and Christianity influenced our founding fathers.
