Gen. Sanchez bids for U.S. Senate (Texas)
San Antonio Express News ^ | 11 May 2011 | Sig Christenson and Gary Martin

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez of San Antonio, an Iraq commander under President George W. Bush who later became an administration critic, will file papers today to seek the U.S. Senate seat held by Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The second Democratic candidate to announce as Hutchison retires, Sanchez said he aims to bridge the partisan gap in Texas, one of the most Republican of red states.

“Here in Texas, too many families are struggling to get ahead. Jobs are hard to find, our schools simply aren't good enough, and increasing food and gas prices are breaking household budgets. We need to make sure small businesses that drive the economy can grow and prosper,” Sanchez said.

“Unfortunately, Washington is mostly focused on scoring partisan points and winning elections. I believe Texas needs a strong, independent voice to address the enormous challenges we are facing — leadership that focuses on results rather than politics.”

By filing today, Sanchez, 57, said he'll be free to raise and spend campaign funds. The race, his first, comes nearly five years after the end of a career that saw him lead the bloodiest American war since Vietnam and retire as one of the highest-ranking Hispanics in Army history.

The Senate bid, he knows, will be an uphill fight. The GOP holds every major statewide office, and the nonpartisan Cook Political Report lists Hutchison's seat as “likely Republican.” Four Republicans have said they would seek the seat, while a fifth, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, has said he will decide next month.

Playing footsie with BO does not enhance one’s resume in TX GOP circles.

I am ashamed that a retired Army General has sunk to the depths of becoming a Democrat.

OM! I now realize that Sanchez is a Democrat. No one runs on the Democrat ticket and expects to win in Texas, so perhaps he’s trying to supplement his retirement funds.

Most Americans would be surprised to learn that many general/flag officers are quite liberal. They’ve spent a lifetime in a closed society that, of necessity, is almost completely socialist (food, clothing, housing, health and dental care, tenure-based pay scale). After several decades, many confuse it with the real world.

Unfortunately for Gen. Sanchez, the issues of his "platform" are caused by DEMOCRAT policies, and (most) Texans know this.

Your comments.....Most Americans would be surprised to learn that many general/flag officers are quite liberal. You are dead on correct. This is why I think that any illusions about our military standing up to RAT bastard socialist commie pig-in-chief 0dumb0 is purely an illusion. Nearly all the top brass are liberal retards, having been indoctrinated for the past 30 years with socialist, diversity, pro-Islam, pro-homo, anti-Christian, anti-U.S. sovereignty propoganda. When 0dumb0 can surround himself with scores of admirals, generals, top brass who all publicly announce their allegiance to the RAT bastard commie pig-in-chief, it is devastating for the future of our country. We need a bloody revolution II now, more than ever!

And in conclusion, I would say to Retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez of San Antonio (announcing his run for Senate seat as a RAT bastard socialist demoRAT) that YOU sir, are a socialist idiot POS!

Yep...and he'll have some 'splainin' to do!

I'm getting my popcorn ready, as the Dems will be tying themselves in knots over him.

You are SO right!
I have witnessed this at close quarters and am always amazed! It is all part of a PC, kiss a** culture just to make flag/general officer and is truly disgusting. Once reaching the 0-6 level, if you weren’t “plugged” or a flag officer, your contemporaries didn’t have the time of day for you because you couldn’t get them promotion.
Colin Powell is the poster child of this philosophy - and I could name you many more!

Does Wesley Clark ring a bell for you? FWIW, I have a coworker who had to serve under him. The general is an a-hole.

I do think that General Sanchez has a shot. He will be helped if the Republcans have a nasty primary and runoff which is won by a weak candidate.

I imagine Sanchez would run a Joe Manchin campaign. Will Texas fall for it like WV did? And because he is of Mexican heritage (I assume), will he garner the votes of Republican or conservative leaning Mexicans in TX-of which there are many?

easy, if he endorses homosexuals in the military he is finished.

if he endorses dream act amnesty he is finished.

if he endorses obamacare he is finished.
