Someone posted yesterday that a Cleveland TV station reported that "President Bush, who lost Osama bin Laden, declined President Obama's invitation to Ground Zero."
Then other posts accused me of making that outrageous statement. Now I'm getting threatening calls and emails.
THAT IS SO WRONG! I never came close to saying anything like that. I introduced CBS correspondent Danielle Nottingham's report on the latest regarding Osama bin Laden. Here is where I think the intial poster stopped listening: Her story excerpt verbatim says, "Tomorrow - the President heads for Ground Zero in New York City -- where he will meet with families of those killed the 9/11 attacks. He invited former President George W. Bush to join him -- but, the man who launched the hunt for Bin Laden declined."
LAUNCHED! So please, stop sending me hate mail. And maybe, just maybe, consider for a moment that an accuser may just be flat out wrong, before you threaten the accused.

You misspelled “Sit in my car outside her house and take pictures”.
I see a hateful comment:
“OPEN YOUR EARS BEFORE FALSELY ACCUSING PEOPLE!”
FReepers are bright enough to use the listings to get a TV station's phone numbers...but "threatening" phone calls are definitely not the "FReeper Way."
While FR is definitely better than cesspools like DU, it does disturb me when some posters don't have a very high standard of evidence for the claims they post. Often, I get called a "troll" for correcting errors when the corrections are not seen as "conservative," but, to me, conservatism doesn't need falsehoods. (If it does, then why are we supporting it.) Plus, I want FR to be a reliable source of information.
It's not fun being wrong, but it happens to all of us and all we can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again. I try very hard to be sure of my sources, but I recently required a very embarrassing correction from Brown Deer over a misstatement I posted. That's a reminder to me that I need to check before posting.
Let's hope that if LynneLai's claim is correct, FR will be glad for the correction and each of us will use it as a reminder that to be careful about what we post.

After the initial shock wears off let’s spring a few “all your base are belong to us” comments on her [ok, I know... so late-90’s), and introduce her to the viking kitties and sister-biting mooses (meese?)

The way it is suggested has a distinctly hateful emphasis to it.

I didn’t see the yesterday’s post, but I’m glad you made the effort to set the record straight.
I love FR, but I wish they’d have a daily retractions/corrections page that came up before anybody could move into the forums. Now, let’s see the names of those posters who made such claims. Time for them to man up!

Regardless of what was said threatening calls and emails are out of line. Understand too that the threats are not from Free Republic. We do have some "loose cannons" that we weed out now and then. Also one does NOT have to join to read this board. It could be ANYBODY. Threads do come up in searches such as Bing and Google. As has been suggested, posting the report and an explanation is a good idea. Those who saw the first one may see the correction.
It seems that you are assuming the hate mail came from FR without anything to substantiate such a claim.
