Just watched CBS 60 Minutes' interview with Lara Logan and what happened in February in Cairo. I must say, I'm still confused: just what did happen? After watching Scott Pelley's interview with Logan, I still don't know if she was raped. It's more than an academic question; in every state in the U.S., there's big difference between sexual molestation and rape. I honestly don't know what happened to Logan that night, other than that a mob tore her clothes off and beat her. To be explicit, CBS didn't ask (or chose not to broadcast) whether a penis entered Logan's vagina - and that's the definition of rape used by every state in the U.S. and most countries around the world.
Another thing that was deeply dissatisfying about the 60 minutes interview: there was no context for why this attack occurred. I find this rather bizarre, to say the least.
Any fellow FReepers have similar thoughts? Different?
And either one, I might add, must have extremely brutalized and traumatized Ms. Logan.
I can’t believe that people here are actually defending this mob. She was a heck of a lot more than “felt up,” and even 40 minutes of that would have been appalling.
I’m really disgusted with the comments here. You’re as bad as Muslims.
To quote Whoopi, “I know it wasnt rape-rape. It was something else but I dont believe it was rape-rape.”
good grief, if this happened to your wife, sister, or mother you would be outraged.
Instead you are arguing what the definition of is, is.
Why did it happen? Because she was a blonde in the middle of 10,000 screaming radical muslims who have no respect for women.
Since I won’t watch 60 minutes, how was Scott Pelley’s attitude towards her? I still remember Lisa Myer’s constipated look when she was interviewing Juanita Broaddrick.
Yawn.
FR seems to be really going downhill lately. Defending rape, wow.
..... end thread here .....
She was, at a minimum, “digitally” raped, meaning she was violated.
One would have to wonder if you, personally, were in a prison situation, and were to be anally probed with a night stick, coke bottles, fingers, thumbs, etc. but not for sure a penis, if you would feel any better about your experience knowing you had only been “sexually” assaulted as opposed to raped by a penis.
Via the NY Daily News reporting on the same 60 Minutes interview you are questioning:
As her clothes were torn off, she saw the repeated flashing of cell phone cameras.
"I didn't even know that they were beating me with flagpoles and sticks and things," she said. "Because the sexual assault was all I could feel, their hands raping me over and over and over again.
"They were trying to tear off chunks of my scalp . . . not trying to pull out my hair, holding big wads of it literally trying to tear my scalp off my skull."

Logan said she didn't think she would live.
"I was in no doubt in my mind that I was in the process of dying," she said.
But she thought of her two toddlers, at home in Washington, D.C., and decided to stop fighting the sexual assault and concentrate instead on staying alive.
"The only thing to fight for, left to fight for, was my life," she said. "I have to just surrender to the sexual assault. What more can they do now? They're inside you everywhere."
SNIP
Logan flew back to Washington where she spent four days in a hospital being treated for cuts, bruises and and internal tearing.
SNIP
Privacy? She’s on nationwide TV talking about it.
Wait until she comes out with the book (you just know there’s going to be one!).
I’m not defending the mob.
I, too, feel this was an abomination. Absolutely disgusting. And, yes, I have seen horrible comments on this forum.
I can’t believe this woman thought she’d be perfectly fine amongst these heathens. If she was that ignorant of Arab Muslim male culture she is one incredibly stupid young woman. And if she was and decided to go out among them anyway she certainly is one of the most reckless.
For an example, from the Revised Statutes of Missouri.
Chapter 566 and chapter 568 definitions.
566.010. As used in this chapter and chapter 568, the following terms mean:
(1) “Deviate sexual intercourse”, any act involving the genitals of one person and the hand, mouth, tongue, or anus of another person or a sexual act involving the penetration, however slight, of the male or female sex organ or the anus by a finger, instrument or object done for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person or for the purpose of terrorizing the victim.
566.060. 1. A person commits the crime of forcible sodomy if such person has deviate sexual intercourse with another person by the use of forcible compulsion. Forcible compulsion includes the use of a substance administered without a victim’s knowledge or consent which renders the victim physically or mentally impaired so as to be incapable of making an informed consent to sexual intercourse.
Other state statutes probably vary, but I am sure all this would be less than comforting to Ms. Logan.
What matters is that Lara Logan was sexually assaulted, that it was brutal, and that it was done by a horde of animals.
Do we really need explicit details? I don’t think so. It’s enough to know this woman was violated in ways no woman should be. Why must we be privy to any more of the lurid details?
And to accuse her of using this to increase her popularity or make it a career stepping stone — that’s a rather harsh judgment on her character which is NOT in evidence, at least not at this point. She said she wouldn’t speak further of it after this 60 Minutes interview. We shall see.
As to Ms. Logan personally, I knew little about her, though I generally see members of the Mainstream Media as less than friendly to me and my beliefs and convictions. One thing I am certain of now — Ms. Logan knows with no shadow of a doubt the potential evil in the hearts of human beings. She’s experienced it. Perhaps she’ll grapple with that reality in a way she never has before. I know I will pray for her.

I can’t believe Freepers are saying she wasn’t raped and are seeking the details.
