“They were arrested for impeding an open business and that law doesn’t apply to preaching.”

The law says it doesn’t apply to constitutionally protected activity, but preaching is not constitutionally protected in all circumstances. It’s certainly not protected on state property, like where the gentleman was standing. Personally, I think there were other laws they should have charged him with which fit the circumstances better, but there still was no civil rights violation.

“You have defined it such that his rights ‘end’ in a place that is convenient for you, but deny him the right to define your rights such that your rights ‘end’ in a place that is convenient for him. “

You need to start thinking. Typical liberal type thinking people can do as they please as long as it fits your personal agenda. You have no right to preach to people that do not want to hear you. That is defined in our society as harassment and disturbing the peace. Sorry you’re such an idiot as to think otherwise. No wonder this nation is going down the crapper. Too many people like you with the “do it if it feels good” and the “don’t tell me what to do” mentality.

Your above comment is the dumbest “logic” I have read in a while. He has no right to disturb other people, convenient or not. My standing there not addressing him is in no way a violation of his rights. His bothering me is.

“Constitutionally protected actions, which preaching is. “

Sorry, preaching is NOT a Constitutional right. If that were the case, then you won’t mind a Muslim returning the favor to you and yours. You have the right to religion, but you do not have the right to disturb the peace.

So, you won’t mind a Muslim standing outside your house at night with a megaphone and praching the word of Allah, right?

Well the 1st amendment did not address the DMV either.

The 1st + the 14th does make it apply to the DMV, or any other creations of the State.

As for the rest of your reply, you sincerely do not see that the government is not allowed to give itself the power to do that which is forbidden it by merely changing the name of the activity? Really?

You do not HAVE to occupy a space for that particular time period. You can come back when the pastors are not there.

"Your above comment is the dumbest “logic” I have read in a while."

If it sound 'dumb' it's because it was your logic repeated back to you.

You have no right to define where anyone else's rights end any more than they have a right to define where your rights end.

You reserve a right for yourself that you deny to others.

Think Toad, think...

This one falls under the right to swing your fist ends at my nose.

I agree. A man has a right to speech, but only to a willing audience. No man has the right to invade someone's ears uninvited and unwanted.

Think of Westboro baptist church and the USSC.

Yes. Suppose—and I don’t want to give them any ideas—the Westboro Baptist Church decided to crash a public auditorium holding a memorial service for a soldier killed in the line of duty (here in MA, that just happened with one of the 9 shot in Afghanistan), waving their signs and chanting loudly, disturbing the ceremony...just wrong.

Oh, I see. You are saying that I have to reschedule my activities because of someone elses thoughtless harassment? You really do have a narrow outlook on life don’t you.So what keeps a guy from showing up preaching that all women are nothing but breeders and should never turn away advances of any man. That women are sex objects and nothing more and should be subserviant to all men or some drivel like that. You took off work to renew your license that day,you just leave and take another day off hoping the guy won’t be there?

..the fact that the CHP really had to stretch to arrest these individuals under Penal Code Section 602.1(b) which protects union activity--tells me they had and have no case--the DA is running for cover

Check this out

--(c) This section shall not apply to any of the following persons:

(1) Any person engaged in lawful labor union activities that are permitted to be carried out on the property by state or federal law.

AND if we have come to the point where a secularist or libertine world view has become the predominant influence in the US--we haven't got long anyway IMO

Yup, we should all be like the Taliban that if you don’t follow the Koran you are subject to be skinned alive or be beheaded. There is a place for religion and thats in a church, not a school or public dwelling.

No, I am not saying that. I'm not calling free speech harassment, you are. I'm not saying you have to do anything, and the State is not saying when you have to renew your license, only that you have to renew it by a certain date.

Part of being a citizen of these Unites States is suffering things we do not agree with for the sake of Liberty.

The Founders knew that religious practice had to be protected from the tiny-minded people who cannot bear hearing the Word of God spoken aloud in public. That is one of the reasons for the prohibition against infringing upon the practice of religion in the First Amendment.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...”

Reading the Bible aloud in public is an inseparably essential element to the practice of Christianity, as it is core to Gospel presentation.

The actions of CHP in this case are in direct violation of the First Amendment because they denied a Christian the right to freely exercise his religion.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t like hearing the Bible read aloud. If that Christian’s rights are taken from him, then yours, dear Freeper-readers, are likewise in danger.

Shame on you, California Highway Patrol.

“To those who cite the first amendment as reason for excluding God from more and more of our institutions and everyday life, may I just say: The first amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people of this country from religious values; it was written to protect religious values from government tyranny.” – Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States

Ah, you’re a word twister. This time, though, you have the “have to” statements all mixed up. I never said you HAD to come back, I said you COULD. You have been the one saying you were being forced to do something at that particular time.

Having to come back when they are not there means I have to reschedule my time because of these thoughtless jerks.Quit trying to weasel out of what you said. You are trying to say it is my fault if I have to reschedule my time because these jerks have a right to harass me if I stay? You really do have a twisted mind like so many religious zealots do.

So these guys were arrested for impeding the operation of an open business? Where was the CHP when Code Pink blocked the Marine recruiting office in Berkeley for weeks? It sure seems that would be more applicable.
