WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Consumer confidence recovered somewhat in April, though the impact of a spike in gasoline prices is still evident, according to data released Tuesday by the Conference Board.

The confidence index hit 65.4 in April, compared with an upwardly revised 63.8 in March. That’s still below the 72.0 reading of February, as gasoline prices nationally have approached $4 per gallon.

The increase came as consumers’ 12-month inflation expectations declined to 6.3% in April from 6.7% in March. In addition, consumer views about the present situation improved.

Even that juggling couldn’t hide the fact that high school and college students, as well as college grads, couldn’t find jobs. If anything, I think this year will be even worse; here in NJ a lot of our illegal aliens that had stolen American jobs a few years back are now unemployed as well.

By the time he’s finished the whole economy will be a “shovel ready” job.

I wonder why the gas is so high anyways? Dunno. Speculators I guess.

Precisely. There is not one glimmer of anything positive economically. Whereas there are many things working to keep the economy in the toilet: Rising petroleum product prices, lack of a positive energy program, galloping deficit, continued demrat efforts to raise taxes, Onadacare etc. etc.

These polls alleging improving economy never offer one reason why this may be true. This means they’re simply calling on the usual suspects and useful idiots to parrot the leftist party line.

These are the only people in my part of SC who cling to absurd flights of fancy to validate their voting for the Usurping Marxist Onada. Thankfully there aren’t many of these miscreants in SC. All the rest of us understand: 1. Onada’s belief that it is unfair that America has been so prosperous 2. Onada’s determination to drive this country to third world status. Onada’s implacable determination that America should be ruled by a bunch of Marxist idiots who subscribe to an ideology that’s failed where ever it’s been tried.

It's all good in the land of the teleprompter imam. His staff is under strict orders to only bring good news. "The daisies are blooming and the average person still has a roof over their head, it's a wonderful day, sir."

People wonder how a country could become Nazi Germany or Stalin's USSR where 80 million people were murdered through forced famine. We're headed there unless we provide the government a serious intervention. I believe it will happen in 2012, and not just the presidential level. The elections of 2010 were just a preview of the DemonRat/RINO housecleaning to come.

No, this isn't an endorsement of The Donald. I'm all for Sarah.

Dog that hatch, and prep for an ugly period of time brother. The present administration will only reign in with another economic blunder designed to supposedly fix a problem, and creating more problems via their ineffectual leadership and ignorance of economics.

Obama went to what school? ...and who did he hire to advise him? A troop of boy scouts know more than these idiots.

Why would anyone feel more confident?

Why would numerous college graduates hoping to find a transitory job or a master’s program feel confident? This is the group that is being hit all so hard, and also the group on which the burden lies to pay the future taxes for the national debt, have the next generation of children, and pay for all the retirees in the previous generation which had fewer children? It’s a real mess out there, and the young unemployment rate is especially bad for the nation, and for those who struggle as well.

I'm confident that the stinkin' libs won't drill for the VAST oil reserves here; I'm confident that the chumps in this so-called "administration" in DC don't have a CLUE what they are doing. I have no faith at ALL in their policies or procedures.

Yes, I'm confident of that.

How hard is it keeping your sanity

You think I'm sane? That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me (sniff).

Actually, I'm a transplant of the worst kind myself - yes, a despised and reviled Masshole. We escaped the gulag about 14 years ago.

Now that Republicans control the governor's office and state legislature here for the first time in about 30 years, it appears to have been a prudent move.

We do wear hazmat suits when we visit Massachusetts, a precaution recommended for any American visitor.

I would like to believe you are right. However, the power of stupid people in large numbers should never be underestimated. Also power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

You are quite funny Madame.

I lived in MA for a few years in the late 70’s. What an experience that was for a blond Southern Irish girl visiting the North End! Some of those Italians felt sorry for me I guess. It could have been brutal if not dangerous. Must have been my Southern accent. Frankly, most of them had never heard a real one before. Only the hick TV BS. They looked after me like daughter.

Congrats on your escape to one of the most beautiful places on earth!

The funny thing is the North End was for years the safest place to live in Boston if you were a decent, hardworking person. It's been years since I was there and I don't know if it's still true but it was then.

True story: one of my kid sister's friends moved there right out of college because she'd gotten a job in the area. A local wiseguy welcomed her to the neighborhood and told her that if she had any trouble with anyone to let him know and he'd take care of it.

They understood the concept of not crapping in your own back yard.

And the food was fabulous! :-)

Congrats on your escape to one of the most beautiful places on earth!

Thanks, you're a gracious lady.

I've always had a soft spot for Southerners, feisty but polite.

It might be my Irish blood that's the link.

Why would anyone feel more confident?

Because they don't see what's happening until the roof falls in?

They'll be the first to demand an investigation into WHY it happened.

Be prepared!
