Safeway stores in my town sometimes sell ANZAC biscuits. Proceeds go to Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Resurrection And Life
April 25, 2011

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life”! It’s one thing to make such a bold assertion; it’s another to back it up—and back it up Jesus did by rising from the dead.

“If you believe that the Son of God died and rose again,” writes George MacDonald, “your whole future is full of the dawn of eternal morning, coming up beyond the hills of life, and full of such hope as the highest imagination for the poet has not a glimmer yet.”

The Son of God died and rose again, and His resurrection is the guarantee that God will bring us up and out of the ground: A thinking, feeling, remembering, recognizable person will live forever.

Living forever means living out the thought of eternity that God has placed in our hearts; meeting again one’s believing loved ones lost through separating death; living in a world without sorrow; seeing our Lord who loves us and gave everything to unite us to Him forever.

But I see another meaning. Since we have this life and the next, we don’t have to “have it all” now. We can live in broken and ruined bodies for a time; we can endure poverty and hardship for a while; we can face loneliness, heartache, and pain for a season. Why? There is a second birth—life in heaven forever.

Yes, Christ the Lord is risen,
Has come forth from the grave;
He breaks the chains of death for you
And now has power to save. —Woodruff

The resurrection is the foundation of our faith.

Read: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

I am the resurrection and the life. —John 11:25

My family in New Zealand fought in all the wars

a great grandfather fought in the Maori Wars in the 1860s...(Moms side)

his son my grandfather fought in the Boar War in Africa...

3 of my mothers uncles died at Gallipoli..the brothers of her mother...there were 18 children in that family

There were 15 children in Moms family...of my mothers 7 brothers 6 fought in WWII

5 in the Pacific and 1 in Nth Africa and Europe...he died in Italy...

3 of the ones in the Pacific were coast watchers in the Solomon Islands...

Some of the 8 girls were in the New Zealnd Army Womens Auxilary...they drove trucks and dug ditches and worked in the hospitals in New Zealand...

and dated the cute American Marines who were there in NZ training to go to the Pacific :)

(My mother was already married but apparantly her younger sisters used to giggle to her about some drop dead gorgeous hunk or 2...the sisters were always very close)

On my fathers side several of his brothers fought in WWIII

The youngest (about 14-15) couldnt get my Nana’s permission to join up so he went to Australia and signed up under an assumed name and age and went and fought with the Diggers

Nana never knew where he had gone until he can home years later from the war...

It was all a lark to him...

Of my generation...my brother was in the RNZ Navy ...his ship patroled the China Sea during Nam

Several of my cousins fought in the New Zealand army in Nam...

Some girl cousins were in the New Zealand Air Force...
