For the past eight years, Liu Zhijun Liu ran China’s $300 billion high-speed rail project. Today, Liu Zhijun is ruined, and his high-speed rail project is in trouble. On Feb. 25, he was fired for embezzling tens of millions of dollars. His ministry has run up $271 billion in debt — But ticket sales can’t cover debt service that will total $27.7 billion in 2011 alone. Safety concerns also are cropping up.

The article calls this guy “part Cornelius Vanderbilt, part Sammy Glick.” It might be more accurate to say part Charles Ponzi, part Bernie Madoff...

It’s not about trains, it’s about control. You ride their mass transit, and they control where, when and eventually, if, you go.

Personally, I love trains too. I love clipper ships too, and horse-drawn carriages, and biplanes, and a lot of other beautiful antiquated means of transportation. But I don’t think that the taxpayer should have to finance my eccentric fascination with them. And it should certainly not subsidize the liberal fascination with getting us all to travel together in a government-controlled medium.
Well, not to worry, Our Great Leader will make it, with his socialist myrmidons, since a failed communist concept will be correctly completed by the next bunch of true believers that try it...

Trains are collectivist whereas cars are individualist. Trains collect the masses and make them all the same; same departure time, same arrival time. Cars are not only individual; allowing people to go anywhere whenever they wish, but may also denote wealth. To a leftist, everybody should wear a gray uniform and quietly queue in line for the next train, whose glory and speed denote progress and wealth shared by all!

The left will do anything, ANYTHING, to get people out of their cars. The freedom to go anywhere you want without government control drives them nuts.
