I've listened over the past few weeks as the mainstream GOP establishment and pundits have tried to demean the possibility of a presidential candidacy by Donald Trump.
Mr. Trump, take it from me, someone who has run for and held elective office, and has been involved in more campaigns, from presidential on down, than I care to count: They are scared of you.
Let's look at some of the criticisms of a Trump candidacy that have been leveled. It's commonly said that he's too much into promoting himself and his products. Gee, seems as a kid, I recall a guy named Ronald Reagan riding on a horse and promoting some sort of soap product.
Even before he launched his 1980 presidential campaign, Reagan starred in a miniature radio version of Trump's current TV show, in which Reagan essentially delivered a Paul Harvey-like message on stations across the nation.
At the time, Reagan's show brought on the same condescension from the GOP establishment that all of Trump's projects and media exposures do now. So let's take that silly argument and throw it in the trash.
What's essential is that Trump has huge name identification, and that's worth gold (another commodity that I presume that Trump owns).

Most people are afraid of a lunatic, even other lunatics.
I’m sure Trump is for real about running.
But that doesn’t make him a good candidate or conservative.
Just when you thought we’d seen the last of the true snake oil salesmen, along comes Trump.
I believe that too. But I think the base wants it in a guy who isn't on his third wife.
Comparing that reality show The Apprentice to Ronald Reagan's radio commentary is blasphemy.
Matt deals with all the criticisms except the only one that matters - the guy is a liberal.
Trump will be a good candidate.
As to a good conservative, what this country so desperately needs is a great businessman until the money problems start to go away. THEN, we can look for a good conservative.
So far not a single one of the sane people have had the cajones to say the first word about George Soros having put a fricking Kenyan slammite in the whitehouse. We're to the point where cajones count for more than "sanity". ('...it just may be a lunatic is what you're looking for...)
After the Tea Party event in Boca last week, there appeared a Newsmax article which unfairly reported on Congressman West's responses to an interviewer's questions about Trump, and caused many to criticize West, believing that he had, in effect, endorsed the candidacy of Trump.
Unless someone here has a tape of a different interview than the Newsmax interview with Col. West which appeared on its own site, the real words and implications of the Congressman's remarks in that interview are very different than Newsmax reports in the article which accompanies the interview, and they do not, in any way, endorse, or express admiration for Trump. Further, in that interview, West did not say he would be honored, or even willing, to serve as VP with Trump, as some believed.
For any who wish to hear the Congressman's own words, visit the site and listen carefully to his wise response.
Newsmax should be ashamed to have left the impression it left in the article and headline.
Congressman West expressed the principles of the Constitution as they apply to our current situation, as well as his determination on deficit and debt reduction. Anyone who is looking for a candidate who can expose the emperor's lack of clothes in a 2012 campaign would do well to examine every word this man has uttered publicly throughout his life and in the last two years to ferret out his authenticity--just as they should do for Trump and the other potental candidates. If West's record fails the test, he fails it. If not, he should not be misquoted, as Newsmax has done.
Rearranging his words to fit some preconceived notion about his appearance at a Tea Party event in his own district with a flamboyant Donald Trump who lives in the distrit as well, says more about the agenda of the organization which did it than it does about Col. West.
The way the GOP has been handling the Obama Eligibility issue....you are not going to get a good conservative candidate from the GOP. Too much in the tank for Obama
Trump is for Reality TV.
Pawlenty = Huckabee = Romney = Barbour = LOSERS
All are Liberals with legislative records to prove it.
Just like Palin.
Of course, you failed to mention that Allen West attacked a Birther at a recent town hall, using the same RINO spin “I do not think that is an issue” in regard to Obama Eligibility.
A precise, exact Constitutional matter is never a non-issue. If West is willing to give Obama a pass on the Eligibility issue...what other issue will West give Obama a pass on?
Not sure if supporting conservatives on the Obama Eligibility issue turns one into a conservative.....but I do know that attacking conservatives on the Obama Eligibility issue is truly not conservatism.
I Am Birther
Except for maybe Rush Limbaugh (is he on #3 or #4?)
what this country so desperately needs is a great businessman until the money problems start to go awayHerbert Hoover was a great businessman. Before he became president he was Secretary of Commerce from 1921 - 1928.
"It has been suggested that Herbert Hoover was the best Secretary of Commerce in United States history." -- Wikipedia
Then, as President, he went on to sign the SmootHawley Tariff Act, which turned a recession into The Great Depression.
What does "great businessman" Trump want to do? He wants to put punitive taxes on Chinese imports.
Wow. Great idea, Mr. Trump. If we're going to relive history, let's relive it in spades!
Trump isn't a conservative, and he doesn't understand the first thing about free markets and free enterprise.
In his own words, he's a "deal maker".
Bernie Madoff was a "great businessman", too. Maybe we should run him.
While the jury is still out on Trump (for me), at the very least he’s speaking about things that need to be talked about and showing what a leader really looks like, IMO.
Compared to the last 2 presidents, he’s got a lot of things that spark my interest. He’s not politically correct. He’s not afraid to speak from the gut, boldly and without remorse. He’s not intimidated by the MSM or liberals (or anyone else for that matter). He KNOWS what he’s doing when it comes to running a business and being in a CEO position. He has experience working with foreign countries - trade, business, etc. His name IS very well known.
Now, there is A LOT of time between now and Nov 2012, and we don’t even know for sure, if he is even running for President. But considering the other options right now....Romney....Huckabee....Gingrich? I’d take Trump. He may have been liberal about things 10 years ago, but that doesn’t mean he still is now.
On the other hand, it also doesn’t mean he’s being fully honest about that either. Time will tell. I just think we need a straight talking, anti-BS, anti-PC, intelligent, EXPERIENCED go getter in the WH. If nothing else, he’s showing what we need in the GOP candidate, to be successful, IMO.
Oh, and someone who isn’t a Politician either!
