WASHINGTON (AP) — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says Republican leaders have privately assured the Obama administration that Congress will raise the government's borrowing limit in time to prevent an unprecedented default on the nation's debt.
But a top Republican quickly pushed back Sunday and said there was no guarantee the GOP would agree to increase the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling without further controls on federal spending.
Geithner told ABC's "This Week" and NBC's "Meet the Press" that Republicans told President Barack Obama in a White House meeting last Wednesday that they will go along with a higher limit.

However, they have said they need to see some cuts in exchange.

You just watch, we caved, the debt limit will be increased, COngress will continue tis spending orgy, the Bush tax cuts will expire and Osama will get tax increases on top of that.
And the spending cuts will be a joke...

Last November these pubs were given the most decisive HISTORIC public mandates ever, taking away the keys and basically telling the marxist won to shut up and take a back seat, and handed those keys on a silver platter to the pubs again so they would get this country out of the ditch, and what did these pubs do with that mandate??? They got out and push a little, and then decided it was too damn hard and too cold and hazardous out there, so they got back in the car, opened a bottle of champagne, and celebrated their hard work together.

Every single possible Republican candidate is a candidate only for importers, merchants and other globalists, just like the Democrat candidates. That’s all we need to know, because the revenues that support them will inevitably decline. Their debt game has terminal cancer.
