Dozens Arrested In Philadelphia Dog Fighting Raid (Paging Michael Vick.....)

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Pennsylvania SPCA is working overtime this morning, raiding homes across the city breaking up what officials are calling the largest dogfighting ring they’ve ever seen in this city.

Officials say this dogfighting ring has been under surveillance for awhile. And late last night, early this morning, the Pennsylvania SPCA with Philadelphia police acting on a tip that fights were happening, raided a home on the 2600 block of Gerritt Street.

Pennsylvania SPCA director of law enforcement, George Bengal says when they entered the house, there were around 25 people watching a fight in progress.

“They actually ran, and left the dogs in the ring fighting, unattended when we entered the property.”

Those two dogs that were fighting, Bengal says are in pretty bad shape. In all six dogs were taken from that house. And 15-20 people were arrested facing animal cruelty and felony dogfighting charges.

At about 7 a.m. Monday, officials raided another home — this one in Kensington — where Bengal says they found 12 dogs stacked in cages in the basement alongside a collection of drugs, weapons, and dog fighting paraphernalia.

It’s a good thing that robbery, murder, burgulary, and assault are so low in Philly so that law enforcement can concentrate on real crime like busting a dog fighting ring.

I’ll bet some of the people watching were wearing Michael Vick Eagle’s jersies.

Nothing in this story says that PPD is curtailing their regular duties to bust up this dog-fighting ring. Why would you criticize them so?

A lot of the dog fighting ‘enthusiasts’ are drug suppliers. The dogs are used for security (guarding the stash) & they fight them as well.

Put it in terms that a southerner can understand... early NASCAR owner-drivers were running shine in hopped-up stock cars. Sooner or later these guys were going to get together to see who had the faster rig.

People who derive pleasure out of watching a living creature suffer have something psychologically wrong with them. People who start of with animals often move onto people.

Under surveillance for a while

Just take your time, police, while these criminals torture and kill more animals.

Nothing in this story says that PPD is curtailing their regular duties to bust up this dog-fighting ring.

Observe logic in action. I'll phrase it as a series of questions:

Resources (that would be police personnel) were used in doing this. Yes or no?

While they were doing this, they weren't working on other crimes. Yes or no?

If you answered no to either question, you seriously need to re-examine reality.

If you answered yes to both questions, you have just completed an Aristotelian syllogism with the inevitable conclusion that other crimes were neglected while they worked on this. QED

Liberal: This is the most heinous crime imaginable and these people need to be punished severely. What kind of monsters would do this kind of thing?
Reporter: They were Muslims.
Liberal: And who are we to judge their culture? They should be released.

I disagree. The people who do the dog fighting are usually wanted for some other crime, sell drugs, have stolen weapons etc... Dog fighting is a cruel activity and it isn’t done by upstanding community citizens. Arrest them all and have them do some serious time. IMHO

Of course. Why would it be against the law to treat your property the way you want.

I don't see police raiding horse racetracks.

No difference; either you have property rights or you don't.

Gov't needs to GTF out of the nanny state.

Today I have to do the laundry, clean up the kitchen, and vacuum. When I’m doing the laundry, just because I’m not doing the other two things at the same time does not mean that they won’t get done today. Also, if the SPCA were helping me with my chores as they’re helping the PPD, it would all get done even faster.

The police are there to enforce the law. If there are laws against dog fighting and all the peripheral crimes committed by the lowlifes who torture dogs in this manner, then the police are doing their jobs when they bust up these rings.

I would venture a guess to say that the PPD Chief knows how to allocate his resources properly without any input from you or me.

As for syllogism, don’t try to teach your granny to suck eggs.

People that participate in illegal(and cruel) dogfighting are not likely model citizens;I’d be shocked if they weren’t also drug dealers, car thieves, housebreakers, and all=around punks.

Personally, I think people who participate in dog fighting are more despicable scum than most robbers, assaulters, and murderers. I don’t take it lightly at all, as you apparently do. Are you a scumbag? Just asking..
