The White House stopped just short of dismissing Donald Trump as a clown Sunday - calling him a "sideshow" act with "zero chance" of becoming president.

Trump countered that he represents Obama's biggest nightmare in the 2012 race and that the White house is running scared.
"I know for a fact that I am the only candidate they are concerned with," Trump told The Daily News. "They are very concerned because I am challenging him as to whether or not he was born in this country where there is a real doubt."
"He should focus on properly dealing with the Chinese, the Saudis and all of the other nations that are ripping off the United States instead of making up quotes about Donald Trump," the "Apprentice" host blustered on. "Barack Obama has done a terrible job as president."
While Trump is not viewed as having a real chance at winning the presidency, experts say his remarks cut to the core of what irks the White House the most, which explains the hostility behind Plouffe's diss.
"There is no issue that irritates the White House more than the birther issue," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics.
"They view it as a symbol for those who refuse to acknowledge Obama as a legitimate president," he said. "The fact that someone as prominent as Trump is bringing this up is a source of real frustration."
Sabato predicted that despite the noise Trump is making, he would soon fade away.

The fact that trump limits his attack to obama’s birth location rather than the broader “natural born citizen” question indicates trump is not fully versed in the subject. Also trump’s position is not as strong as it could be. Obama could have indeed been born in Hawaii but wants to hide something. So trump could be playing this a bit smarter by not boxing himself in.
There is a broader issue. If I need a birth certificate for my son to play baseball then why does the president get a pass?
Well, if Trump was such a clown, then why is the White House even bothering to comment about him? What’s really going on here is that Obama is signaling the lapdog media to attack Trump.
These guys are as transparent as their clothing.

And I just can't help but like him. Anyone who slugs and fights like this guy would be one helluva guy not only to have as a candidate but as a President. Usually the political system eats up outsiders, whether candidates or Presidents, but these aren't usual times. I'm like you, I don't want to like him but I can't help myself...I do like him and I absolutely love his spirit.
The only person who can end this is Obama, and he'd rather give the American public the finger.
Trump is a hero for this, and one of the few people who could openly challenge Obama on this question, and get a hearing in the press.

Exactly. If they are so scared in the WH of this issue, they can Make Trump Go Away by simply proving Obama is eligible. A legit long form BC would be Trump repellant.
If the WH talking about Trump “fading away” is a threat to him, next you will see the chicago way in action with some enquirer style story about trump taking Viagra or why he does the combover. They will start with trying to embarrass him. If that doesn’t work, trump will need tasters and limo starters, and only fly with known pilots...
In that quote he focuses on where obama was born. Even if obama was born in Hawaii he may not be a natural born citizen. Trump shouldn’t box himself in. Obama may have been born in Hawaii (and hiding something) or is able to get officials to forge what is needed.
What happened with Keyes’s legal challenge to Obama’s legitimacy? He was on the ballot against him in CA, where Keyes filed the suit.

Obama's posse can "view it" any way they like, but the fact remains that Barak's father was not a US citizen, or even a legal resident, when Barak Obama was born. Ergo, Barak does not meet the Natural Born Citizen requirement. All the other stuff is unlikely to be proven one way or the other until after Barak Obama leaves office and his vital records suddenly aren't protected as if they were some sort of state secret.
If it doesn’t exist you must convict.

My point was I believe that quote was the first time he has actually articulated the term “natural born citizen” in an interview. That’s a start.
