PORTLAND -- Ceasefire Oregon collected 243 guns Saturday at a turn-in event at Portlands Memorial Coliseum.
The group worked with the newly reinstated Portland Police gun task force to host the event.
The firearms collected Saturday were given to police and will be destroyed.
For each gun turned in, the owner received a $50 Fred Meyer gift card.
Helen Carons and Andrew Perez, who attended the event, were both affected by gun violence two years ago when Perez accidentally shot Carons' son.
"I just want to thank everyone for turning in their guns, Carons said. I really do appreciate it. My son, Nash, appreciates it. Hopefully it will save a life or two.
Protesters stood on a nearby curb with signs saying they would buy the guns. They said they believe guns should not be destroyed.

I hope you have no expectation that merely conspiring to deprive citizens of their constitutional rights will be prosecuted. If guys like Alan Gottlieb and the Second Amendment Foundation were smart, they'd find some black dude (to neutralize the 'racist' thing) who gave up his gun to the police but otherwise has a clean record, and use him to SUE, SUE, SUE. Sue, baby, sue.

...when Perez accidentally shot Carons son.
Lucky Perez didn’t accidentally back over her son with his car or we would be subjected to stories about “car violence”.

For each gun turned in, the owner received a $50 Fred Meyer gift card. Damn. I wish I could have been up the street with first right of refusal. Hey, buddy, I'll give you $50 and a coupon for a Big Mac, or tofu burger, whichever...

Sue, baby, sue. Perhaps, but the police couldn't care less if they're sued. They don't pay, the taxpayers pay. The only way to curb police abuses is criminal prosecution and conviction of the individual police responsible for the criminal actions commited under the color of law. Unfortunately this almost never happens. Look at Chris Braga, Lon Hourouchi, etc.

I've got a broken old single-shot 12 gauge that I've held onto since the early 1980's just for an opportunity like this. I only paid $50 for it when I bought it new.
If some liberal was stupid enough to buy it "back" from me for $50, I'd jump at it.

Years ago I read of a gun buyback in which a widow woman turned in her deceased husband's two guns, a mint condition 1911 .45 auto and a 1903 Springfield.
The cop recognized them as collector's items and suggested she have them appraised as they were extremely valuable.
The cop was reprimanded for letting these guns “escape” their turn in.

Sue? For what? Voluntarily giving away personal property?
If the police forcibly “TOOK” someones otherwise legally possessed firearm, then a suit may be in order.
These are either feel good morons thinking they are doing some “good” or shady types legally relieveing themselves of illegal arms, not reasonable citizens being forced into something.

Every time Portland does this, Lars Larson gets on his show and tells people to go down there and buy the good guns before thhe cops do. And they do. Some real treasures have been saved, and bargains found.

Does Fred sell ammo? For Diasy and Crosman. Local store closed out ammo years ago...at great prices.

So, if the guy “accidentally” pushed his son off a cliff would the Liberals be trying to fill up the Grand Canyon?

So, Ceasefire is now operating as an FFL without a license as are the Portland PD.
Someone in that local should file a criminal complaint.
