The conviction of American terrorists, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, symbolizes the FBI's crown jewel of criminal prosecutions. So why do questions linger? Does the official account of what transpired on April 19, 1995 reveal all that certain federal investigators know? In the wake of the 1995 bombing, national polls showed 80 percent of Americans believed additional conspirators evaded capture. Today, as the 16th anniversary approaches, the prospect of shadowy terrorists walking free still pervades the country's psyche. This time, however, the FBI itself is fueling the flames of public distrust.
Last week the vault of top-secret bombing evidence cracked open. The Department of Justice, responding to Freedom of Information Act requests, released a declassified report detailing the May 26, 2005 interrogation of Terry Nichols. According to the record, Nichols broke his decade-long silence, acknowledging his hands-on role in constructing the massive truck bomb that demolished the Oklahoma City Murrah Building. While this revelation was all but academic, what Nichols said next threatens to rewrite history.
During the interview, the convicted bomber unleashed a startling admission: John Doe 2 exists. The FBI report states, "Nichols advised that John Doe 2's name had not been mentioned during the (FBI) investigation, and therefore, he feared for his life and his family's well-being should it become public."
One seemingly innocuous statement in this recently declassified FBI memo effectively shatters the government myth that two angry white males singlehandedly pulled off the crime of the 20th century. To begin, Nichols clearly implied that he knew the identity of John Doe 2 when asserting that his co-conspirator's name "had not been mentioned" during the prodigious FBI investigation. Keep in mind, the bomber had direct access to sealed court files and classified discovery materials that federal prosecutors were legally required to disclose to his defense lawyers

I think this story is bogus. If I were John Doe-2 and as powerful as Nichols seems to believe I am, I’d have had him silenced years ago..........A dead man can tell no tales.

Don't you think "silencing" Nichols in prison would perpetuate the conspiracy theories? I would guess they would rather just let Nichols keep swinging in the wind.
They ID’d John Doe II right away and established a Saddam connection. Bill Clinton just did not have the stones to deal with it so he buried it and covered the evidence. George W. rather than try to resurrect an X File, apparently chose to just go after Saddam directly in retaliation.
I saw it and heard it live, too. You are quite right. Moreover, remember the “bolos” for a fleeing brown truck with at least two Middle-Eastern men inside. Another thing that is seldom mentioned. Jayna Davis’ “The Third Terrorist” is a book that should be read by anyone who cares about this incident.

You must have missed that whole Iraq invasion, subsequent capture, conviction, and execution of Saddam Hussein.
John Doe #2 was an Iraqi Agent. The target detonation date was set by Iraq for the day of the Branch Davidian church burning by the BATF in order to stoke local Texas anti-government feelings. The Iraqi plan was for McVieigh to bomb something in Bush's city of Dallas (back when he owned the Texas Rangers) or in Austin (when he was Governor of Texas) in retaliation for GHWB's 1991 invasion of Iraq...but McVeigh didn't want to drive that far South.
OKC was closer. In the end, detonating the bomb in OKC was a complete failure. No "message" was sent to Bush in Texas and no Texas uprising against the government occurred...because bombing OKC didn't have the same emotional impact that bombing in Texas would have.
Had the plot been made public, however, there would have been immediate calls for an Iraq invasion...something that Clinton didn't want.
...but when Bush took over as President, the various Iraqi plots (one against his dad in Kuwait comes to mind) weighed in to subsequent action against Hussein.
So something was done. Saddam was executed for the OKC plot, among other things.
Agree about Davis. Did you know that as she was reporting some of her findings as part of her job on our local NBC affiliate, the NYT purchased the station, and promptly fired her once they owned it? She lost her job over it. NYT eventually re-sold the station, having done their job. I always suggest her book to people who are interested in this topic. It’s among the best ones.
I’m not sure the attack was on Christians. I think it was on religious food fights in general. But, like the freedom of speech, I guess folks have the freedom to take offense at whatever they want, even if it doesn’t really exist.

An “implication” by one principal that someone else was involved in a crime is hardly a “confession”. In fact, it’s a very common tactic by perps to try to receive more favorable treatment.
Everyone misunderstood the story.
A rumor was floating around in the intelligence community that Saddam Hussain had set up a terrorist cell.
The rumor worked it's way through the intelligence community to an ex CIA agent working for ABC News. This agent provided the ABC news reporter with the info.
Following the OKC bombing the reporter contacted the FBI with the info. The FBI checked it out and it turned out to be false.
What that means that everybody missed, someone knew enough about McVeigh's and Nichole's activities prior to the OKC bombing that they could fabricate a story making it appear as if they, meaning right wing extremist, were collaborating with the Iraqi Govt.
If the story was true, the OKC bombing would have been an act of war, not just a criminal act.
Immediately after the OKC bombing Clinton had the spy satellites turned to spy on the right wing extremist at Elhom (SP) City where McVeigh had been.
It's illegal for the fed govt to use spy satellites to spy on American citizens for domestic crimes. If those American citizens are engages with a foreign govt. in an act of war against the US, then it would be legal.
In other words, by turning the satellites, little Billy showed his hand. He knew about the OKC bombing far enough in advance that he could concoct a story of Iraqi govt involvement.
Have it work it's way through the intelligence community into the hands of an ABC news reporter.
The ABC reporter, by going to the FBI instead of running with the story, screwed up the plan of making it appear the right wing extremist (meaning anyone that disagreed with Clinton) had teamed up with a foreign govt and were waging war against the US.
Had the Clinton's been successful in their plan to have the right wing extremist tied to a foreign govt and waging war against the US, you wouldn't be reading this.
Bush had his reasons...I just wish there had been some genuine WMD to silence the ‘rats (even though they also believed in them initially)
There actually WERE WMD in Iraq. They actually were found. But each time, after finding them (including an entire underground “city” full of material for making nuclear bombs), stories were published, then buried and never mentioned again. My question has always been—and still is—WHY? It never made sense to me.

I read stories like that too but nothing became of them. And since most came out under Bush I figured that they must not have had much substance.
