They gathered in HC-5 all week talking sometimes complaining loudly about where the party was headed in the budget crisis. Many said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) didnt share enough information. Others were peeved he wasnt pushing for deep enough cuts. Some were ready for a government shutdown.
And on Friday night, Boehner himself was unsure what would happen. Halfway through a closed-door meeting of House Republicans, an aide approached Boehner, slipped him a piece a paper, which he read and quickly pocketed.
He then stepped to the podium, and announced what everyone had been waiting for.
We have a deal, the Ohio Republican said around 10:30 p.m.
And with that, Boehner had something more a defining moment in his speakership and a chance to set aside questions about his ability to manage an unwieldy caucus of conservatives, at least for now.
The 61-year-old, swept into the speakers chair during last Novembers GOP landslide, faced down two Democrats Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and answered doubts from the conservative movement about whether he was a true believer.

What was written on that slip of paper. Soros’s check just cleared?
A strategic cave to attempt to take the wind out of the Tea Party’s sails. Let’s prove him, and other Elitist Swine, wrong!

The 2011, 1.5 trillion dollar deficit is now higher than the 2010, 1.3 trillion dollar deficit.
And the 2010 budget included the "stimulus" package.
Looks to me like the yahoos are going in the wrong direction.
The bottom line is that we have now base lined 2010 stimulus level spending, and we have now added additional spending to it.
I call that a loss.
What am I, Tony Two Times???
But we have many on this Forum...that say that is NOT GOOD enough!
So it really wasn’t about the MONEY?
The problem is that after a performance like this, some tea party types may begin to disengage from the GOP. That will make it tougher for the Republicans to win back the Senate.
The Boehner and Rove strategists have no sense of this. Apparently they haven't learned anything from the 2006 election cycle.
CRYING RINO EUNICH.
I'm SICK & TIRED of having a RINO man-child PUSSY in ANY leadership position in the Republican party.
They are serial CAVERS and NOT willing to stand for their supposed convictions and principles.
How about some REAL fire-breathing MEN (or women) WITH BALLS who will NOT roll over and expose their hindquarters to the enemy?
Be NICE for a f**king change, wouldn't it?
One of the first things they should do is change the system so that if the government shuts down, the workers won’t get paid even if they ultimately reach a deal. I bet that if that were the way things worked, it would be a whole lot easier to make these cuts.
Yup.
Politically, Obama was the big winner.
And Mark Levin said that they control 100% of the funding!!!
WE'VE SIMPLY GOT DUMBASSES, PUSSIES, AND DUMBASS PUSSIES RUNNING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
So you think the Senate and Obama would sign up for that this year?
Actually, he only "caved" if he stops here. If he keeps going, then it's just an incremental victory of the sort that Republicans, and a whole lot of FReepers, are too stupid to recognize as good things.
You're the one who's caving right now.
So you didn’t want to fight over the small Hill....you wanted to go after the BIG HILL....RIGHT NOW...is that right?
“So it really wasnt about the MONEY?”
Apparently not as they only cut $38.5 billion which was far lower than what the GOP had claimed that they would cut.
Oh, pish posh. Who really cares about what the Consitution has to say about the way laws get passed.... We must instead demand the unachievable, and declare victory by virtue of having said Hard Words. Passing legislation and getting it signed into law is for pansies. (Need I add the /s?)
Geez...How do you come up with THAT?
