Freshman GOP Senator Mike Lee (Utah) says President Obama's inability to get a budget passed last year may have been "deliberate."
"It was either irresponsible on one hand or deliberate and malicious on the other with intention to bring about a sequence of events that would culminate inevitably in a government shutdown," Senator Mike Lee said on the Senate floor today.

Samuel Adams: If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
I say deliberate. Everything these clowns do is deliberate. Like deliberately trying to destroy the country.
There is none so blind as he who will not see.
The RATs who are not actually in on his attempts to do harm to the U.S. refuse to open their eyes.
I agree, Senator.
If he does this, he will effectively justify this untenable level of spending...and in effect justify full-on socialism.
If he fails, he is hurt but probably it will not be a politically fatal blow to him. He will still live to fight another day.
But the Republicans need to know, that for our side, this is for all the marbles - our backs are to the wall, and a loss is to lose America forever and always.

Stupid and incomeptant, or Malicious.
It has to be one or the other.
Since EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE makes perfect sense ONLY if you consider it from the perspective of him WANTING to destroy the USA, i am going for malicious.
Of course it was deliberate. “Inability” my left butt cheek.
Too bad it’s going to backfire on him. Big time.
The dems are scared.
Hee heee.
Sounds about right.
Alinsky’s can create a crisis if necessary.
Barak bin Hussein abu-Bama al-Kenyata can veto all budget bills thus protecting all Socialized Medicine on the books. That in itself affects all aspects of American life.
He can keep it up through 2011 and until Jan 2012.
That is a long time for HusseinCare to get a foothold.

Didn’t the pubs see tis coming, they will pick services to halt that have the most impact and cause the most inconvience for the people.
I am very impressed with Mike Lee - he will go far if he wants to.
What’s the rumpus? Obama is allowed to maliciously act to the detriment of the United States because he is actually an enemy combatant and not in any way, shape or form a legally qualified and serving official of the US Gov’t.
If this is true (and I don’t doubt it), it would have been done based on the 1995/1996 shutdown experience and represent a significant case of “fighting the last war”.
The environment today is very much different, on several different levels. In this case the Republicans are the ones trying to keep the government open, even if only on a week-by-week basis. AND they’re the ones trying to pass the complete DoD approps, which is really the most important approps bill NOT to have stuck in a week-by-week situation.
The Republicans also don’t control Congress. They control the House. As long as the House keeps popping out continuing resolutions and the Senate keeps rejecting them or refusing to act on them, the responsibility for closing the government is firmly with the Dems.
Probably most importantly tho, is that the expansion of new media channels (specifically the internet) allows for the GOP to get its message (or at least what should be its message - never underestimating the ability of the GOP to pull defeat out from the jaws of victory) out more effectively and to a wider audience.
I fully expect that if the government shuts down, in the next week there are going to be LOTS of news scenes from the National Mall of ticked off tourists who can’t get into the Smithsonians (it’s also the height of tourist season here - no coincidence there, right? [/sarc]). If they’re well-informed of reality (something that DIDN’T happen in 1995/96, but should be expected now) the Dems should find that their tactics from 15 years ago didn’t age very well ...
He needs the government to shut down so he can inforce martial law.
I don’t think it was malicious.
The democrats didn’t pass a budget, because they didn’t want to have to explain why they planned to spend as much as they did. What they did instead was pass a continuing spending resolution that gave Obama authorization to spend without a budget.
But what the democrats failed to do, what they didn’t have the votes to do was to was to raise the debt limit. And that is what is giving Republicans the power that they have now.
Obama has the authorization to spend. The democrats gave him that. He just doesn’t have the funds to spend, and he can’t borrow any more, unless the Republicans agree to it.
And the Republicans are only agreeing to it a week at a time and only if the Democrats approve specific spending cuts along the way.
Well, I certainly expect he’ll bring the unions in to D.C., Wisconsin-style, to create as much mayhem and chaos as possible...painting it all as the Republican’s fault.
Since when is this not obvious?
I believe strongly that it is deliberate. From the outset of his regime, Obama had been operating under the mistaken belief that if the public is in crisis then they will look to the government rather that to themselves, for succor. Since it hasn’t happened yet, I think this shutdown is his last hurrah.
I fully expect him to select the government functions that have the greatest impact on people in need so that he can put as much stress on his “grass roots” people as possible. Tourism is relatively minor, though high visibility. I’m looking more toward necessities. Military pay is a good example, and I understand that they intend to cut it off after a week.
On the plus side, if the Republicans hold tight we can demonstrate the best of American resilience and end this socialist experiment.
