How well do liberalism and Country Music mix? Here are my observations Ill let you decide
At the recent Kennedy Center Point of Lights Tribute event honoring George H.W. Bush for his efforts in promoting volunteerism, a CNSNews.com reporter asked Grammy Award-winning country artist Garth Brooks, if President Obama was living up to his expectations. Brooks responded by saying I love him to death and I fully support him and I just wish him well because its got to be hell in that office
When Grammy Award-winning superstar Carrie Underwood was asked the same question, she replied, See, now youre getting into like politicky kind of stuff Im here for the service aspect and to honor great people and the service that theyve done and I kind of stay out of the rest of it.
One artist is clear about his position and the other would rather not get into any kind of political discussion. So whos right? Does it really matter?

The fact that country music and conservative are largely viewed as being synonymous, since country music fans tend to be primarily Christian and/or conservative, doesnt sit well with liberal country artists as well as some of Nashvilles record company CEOs who vote Democrat. So disenfranchised were they about this, they decided to do something about it and founded an organization called Music Row Democrats in 2003.
So, out of curiosity to learn more about this organization, Music Row Democrats, I scoured the internet for quite a while and found nothing current on that organization (or really ANY articles/blogs about liberal country artists after 2008, for that matter). If you check out their site www.musicrowdemocrats.com youll only find a blog about Democrats and poker and their MySpace page is pretty sad as well (created on 7/25/2006
last login was 11/6/2006).

From the article:
“So, where are the Music Row Democrats today? It begs the question: Do they share Garths sentiment about this President and love him to death or have they changed their tune about his brand of Hope and Change
or perhaps theyve decided to just shut up and sing? I noted that at this past weekends Academy of Country Music Awards, there were no reported incidents of award presenters or recipients making any controversial political statements. Are they keeping tight lipped now or are they finally waking up and seeing what we conservatives are seeing happening to this country?
Again not really sure.
It would appear though that, just as Hollywood actors are reluctant to come out of the conservative closet out of fear of losing their jobs, so too are many liberal country artists afraid to speak up out of fear of losing their fans.”
Carrie Underwood has a lot more to lose by ticking off her fans. Garth Brooks is a total wanna be.
One of the most beautiful women in the world, Faith Hill, and her hubby are libtards and campaigned for Obambi . . . broke my heart that a lovely woman like her would have any use for a POS like Obambi . . . but when you’re independently wealthy, and really don’t give a $hit about where your money’s coming from, I guess you can lay back and be goofy.
and by “wanna be” I meant “has been”.
Garth Brooks has been fruity since the Chris Gaines disaster.
As for Garth Brooks, I don't see myself even wanting to listen to his stuff because he is a flaming liberal.
Its great that the Dixie Chicks and Garth Brooks faded away. Let us hope and pray that others in fly over country don’t still love him (Obama) to death.
my advice to these people is not to peeve me off...I hold grudges a long,long time...
Carrie is smart. STAY OUT OF IT.
For Carrie’s sake, if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all. People don’t want political diatribe at concerts.
Bravo, Carrie...you have shown your intellect. It’s stupid to open your mouth and alienate half your potential audience. It ‘s also immoral to use your celebrity to try and push your political agena. I say this as a country artist who appeared at the CMA Fanfest last year. Let your music do the talking.
Good Riddance Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Garth, Faith and Tim, Dixie Chicks and all the rest of you libs who think we’re like sheep out here just waiting to be enlightened by your pearls of political wisdom.
I’m through with Mr. Brooks... won’t have any effect but I’ll know.
Remember when country artists wrote lyrics such as these?
“Okie From Muskogee”
We don’t smoke marijuana in Muskogee;
We don’t take our trips on LSD
We don’t burn our draft cards down on Main Street;
We like livin’ right, and bein’ free.
I’m proud to be an Okie from Muskogee,
A place where even squares can have a ball
We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse,
And white lightnin’s still the biggest thrill of all
We don’t make a party out of lovin’;
We like holdin’ hands and pitchin’ woo;
We don’t let our hair grow long and shaggy,
Like the hippies out in San Francisco do.
And I’m proud to be an Okie from Muskogee,
A place where even squares can have a ball.
We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse,
And white lightnin’s still the biggest thrill of all.
Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear;
Beads and Roman sandals won’t be seen.
Football’s still the roughest thing on campus,
And the kids here still respect the college dean.
We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse,
In Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA.
-Merle Haggard
Garth Brooks was the worst thing to ever happen to country music. A corporate hack with a phony cowboy hat, a briefcase and one of those shitty Takamine guitars. The town filled up with them after Brooks.
Tis best Music Row attend the ‘Dolly Parton School of Political Etiquette’
Rule#1 Shut up and Sing.
Also Alice Cooper University. ‘Rock should never be in bed with politics’
IMO, Merle Haggard slid over to the darkside left years ago. IIRC, he campaigned for Hilary in 2008.
