For Imam Muhammad Musri, watching the mobs in Afghanistan incited to violence last Friday by the burning of a Quran by Gainesville Pastor Terry Jones was like a nightmare come true. He feared it, he foresaw it, he felt helpless to prevent it.
This is what Musri thought he had prevented last fall when he persuaded Jones to drop his plans to burn the holy book of Islam on the anniversary of 9/11. Instead, it was just a delayed reaction when angered Afghans overran U.N. offices and killed seven civilians.
"Muslims are outraged, but there is nothing we can do. We fully understand who Terry Jones is. This guy is a nut job," said Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida.
Orlando's Muslim community felt sadness, helplessness and fear while watching from afar as extremists on both sides, Christian and Islam, put their worst behavior on display to confirm their worst opinions of each other. While Central Florida Muslims felt the Afghan mobs no more represented Islam than Jones represented Christianity, they worried about becoming victims of retaliation by Christian extremists.
"There was a great deal of fear that it might cause a backlash here. There is too much hatred in the air," Musri said.

What a coincidence... local Muslims inspire fear, sadness in true Americans.
“Muslims are outraged but there is nothing we can do”
Except kill innocents, or make excuses for the throwbacks who are doing so
“We fully understand who Terry Jones is. This guy is a nut job”
And the murderous Muslims are not?
Does this mean you're leaving, never to come back?
When they say “nothing we can do”, they mean that they don’t know of a way to kill Mr. Jones yet.
El Toro Pooh-Pooh!
Its a real shame we don’t have Patton or MacArthur running the show in Afghanistan. They wouldn’t tolerate this kind of nonsense.
Burning the Koran and Killing 7 people are equal? I don’t think so. While I don’t see any sense in burning the Koran, it no where compares to the reaction of the Muslims.
No-It means they are building a SCUD missile in their basement.
What a shame.
Muslims feeling fear.
Too bad.
Complain about your fear and horror to Christians caught behind the satanic walls of any muslim craphole.
muslims don’t like certain aspects of the American experience? Leave! NOW!
Taqiyya!
If you’re scared, leave. Book a flight today on a nice, convertible jet.
bttt
They have no more to worry about than before it was burned. We do not behave the way they do.
Terry Jones may or may not be a nut job, I don't know him, but burning a book does not make him into anything.
The Muslims need to deal with their own and tell them to grow a thicker skin.
If Terry Jones is inspiring fear and sadness in the Arab population, then he should be hailed as a true American patriot. We shouldn’t go along with the liberal media and Hussein Osama’s coalition of cronies in denigrating him, but should instead recognize him as a force to scare off potential and actual terrorists living in America. It’s a shame that Jones has to do the work the government should be doing in dealing with Islam.
Jones has the ability to make a huge statement on political correctness and the double standard that allows acceptance of anti-Christian works in the US.
He should submerge a Koran in urine and call it “Piss-Koran”. He should then ask for $15,000 for the work from the taxpayer-funded National Endowment for the Arts. If he is refused and attacked for his “bigotry”, he should ask why the work “Piss Christ” got just such a deal from tax payers.
