On April 5 Wisconsinites will be voting for assorted alderpersons, trustees and school board candidates. The marquee event however, is the hotly contested Unions vs. Gov. Scott Walker race.
Oh sure, the ballot will say something about JoAnne Kloppenburg vs. David Prosser for Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, but they're just bit players in the unions' big play to get revenge on Walker for his budget repair bill. Unions are casting Justice Prosser as a Walker clone and urging Walker haters to use the high court race to punish Prosser/Walker by voting for his opponent, whoever she is.
Prosser, who has been a Supreme Court justice for 12 years, finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, being a conservative judge who happens to be up for re-election this year. He says he views the union action as "a little bit like a drive-by shooting."
It's a lot like that. The American Federation of Teachers, Local 212, sent a letter to its members saying legal challenges to Walker's budget repair bill could wind up before the state Supreme Court. It claimed four judges are "anti-union" and said, "A Kloppenburg victory would swing the balance to our side. A vote for Prosser is a vote for Walker. It's time to get even."

As for Kloppenburg, we know she's an assistant attorney general most experienced in environmental law. She interned for Chief Justice Abrahamson and clerked for former Chief Judge Barbara Crabb - the judge who ruled against the National Day of Prayer last year.
She makes campaign contributions only to Democrats, and has been endorsed by the big labor and teachers unions. The executive director of NARAL Pro Choice Wisconsin endorses her, as well as numerous liberal environmental activist groups.
The liberals see something in Kloppenburg they like.
It can't be her judicial experience. No, they just need a "Get Even With Walker" candidate, and she'll do. Revenge voters only care about who they're voting against, not who they're voting for.

but if the state voted for Walker, isn’t it more Republican? Wouldn’t it be likely that the more conservative judge will win anyway?
The author, Ellen Bueno, has written many wonderful articles in the past for the Baraboo News Republic. She certainly has her head screwed on right. They don’t publish many conservatives as the paper is owned by Capitol Newspapers out of Madistan. In fairness, they also publish Michael Reagan once a week. They then fill their opinion columns with the likes of Bill Press and his ilk the rest of the week.
Rush and Hannity can save it for Prosser Tuesday afternoon, no matter what the Dems advantages are going in.
I doubt that Prosser will win this one as the libs/unions are extremely motivated right now, and Wisconsin has voted dem most of the time. I hope I am wrong, but there it is.
Unfortunately the unions have mobilized to try and get this pathetic creature, Kloffenberg, elected.
She's a piece of work. We have a treatment center in Milwaukee that continues to dump sewage by the tons into Lake Michigan and the DNR, which Kloffenberg represents, does nothing; but she throws an 80 year old farmer into jail because he refused to plant crops to alleviate run-off.
She has a no common sense approach to handling situations with the DNR and property owners.
Fortunately she opposes gun rights, and that has scared a lot of the union faithful.
Champion News Talk Radio
On Sundays show (8am on WIND am560, Chicago) Jack Roeser and Jim Edwards talk with Bill Zettler, Research Director for the Family Taxpayers Foundation. The discussion will center on the differences between Illinois and Wisconsin public pensions and salaries. With all of the news about Wisconsins Governor Walker talking a proactive approach to Wisconsin fiscal management while the unions whine and show their true colors of greed and self interest - we will discuss how Illinois is in far worst financial shape than Wisconsin under Democratic/union leadership.

The NRA also has started sending thousands of post cards out explaining her opposition to gun rights.
Hopefully the rally of common-sense voters last fall will again prevail to get Prosser re-elected. Union membership in Wisconsin is a small part of the overall work force. Doubtful non-union workers will go for a candidate who wants them to not only pay for their own retirement and health care but the union’s as well. Need to get the word out and the masses to vote for Prosser. If you know Wisconsinites, make a phone call and ask them to do likewise.
It's an off-year election that typically gets minimal turnout.
The contest will be all about which side has more people who are motivated to show up at the polls.
So this is what we have been reduced to. A political faction is pulling out the stops to defeat a judge who they fear will vote in accordance with the state constitution.
You may be right.
This battle will wage on. Hopefully most sensibly minded people in WI will see through the union tactics.
If the courts stop this bill from being implemented because of the 24 hour notice rule, I see two courses of action for Walker and the WI Senate:
1. Hold another vote giving the proper notification period. Hopefully enough Republicans will stay on board to pass it again.
2. Go ahead and send the pink slips out to the 1,500 employees whose jobs were on the chopping block.
I sure hope you are right. This election will be very telling.
I sure hope we turn out a good number. The unions are definitely motivated!
Question, the first: the vote had been delayed for weeks by the absence of the Dems and then they decide to have the vote. Why did it violate the 24 hour notice???
Question, the second: if Walker and Johnson were both elected statewide, why do the Dems think the state is still so hard-core Left?

Be of good faith. Even union guys are calling into the Mke radio shows and saying that they get it. The government employee unions are out of control.
The whacko environmentalist shot herself in the foot by not denouncing a very dirty and dishonest ad about Prosser mishandling a sexual abuse case. But now the victim has filmed an ad saying that Prosser handled it appropriately and denouncing her for abusing him a second time.
The underlying correlation hasn’t gone away, Wisconsin is broke and we can’t raise taxes to fix it. The governor appeared in Janesville last week and they had to bus in protestors from South Dakota. Jesse Jackson was there with some Teamster’s semi trailer. Meanwhile the meeting he was speaking to was 2x higher in attendance than ususal.
I disagree. It would be good if Possner is reelected. But a Lib steal through union thuggery will make the court another cause celeb by further infuriating the Right. Good long-term results.
The state elected Walker but keep in mind that the voter fraud in Madison and Milwaukee is endemic. It has long been a practice to bus welfare recipients from Chicago to Milwaukee to collect that second welfare check and it is equally the practice to bus them from Chicago to Milwaukee to vote. The Dem/union thugs will be pulling out all the stops on this one. Walker should have concentrated first on fixing the walk-in and vote system that Wisconsin is known for (no proof required) and THEN gone after unions. I don’t know that any amount of getting out the vote efforts by Republicans can overcome the fraud that is certain to take place on this one.
