UN OKs Libya airstrikes, no-fly zone Military action could follow within hours; Gadhafi tells The U.N. Security Council authorized a no-fly zone over Libya and called for Arab states and others to use "all necessary measures" to protect civilians from attacks by Moammar Gadhafi's forces.
The resolution passed 10-0 with five abstentions.
The resolution establishes a ban on all flights in the airspace of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya" while excluding an occupation force. It also calls for freezing the assets of the Libyan National Oil Corp. and the central bank because of links to Gadhafi.
French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe flew to New York Thursday to press the case for speedy Security Council approval.
The world is "living one of its great revolutions that changes the course of history," Juppe told the Security Council just before the vote.
The United States, France and Britain pushed for speedy approval because Gadhafi's forces are advancing toward opposition-held Benghazi. The Libyan leader vowed Thursday night to oust the rebels from their eastern stronghold.
Thousands of anti-Gadhafi protesters cheered and let off fireworks on Friday to celebrate the vote. Al Jazeera television showed the crowd firing guns in the air, setting off fireworks and waving flags from the monarchy era in celebration.

“There is something fishy here. Im not smart enough to know what.”
Yes, Col Quadaffy is going to be replaced with a more efficient and effective jihadi.
Sounds like French forces will be launched within a couple of hours. I wonder if we will participate directly, or only supply logistical and intelligence support.
It’s not that 0bama wants it, it’s that the Arab league wants it. They don’t like Gadaffy.

Somehow, that’s a bit scarier.
whooopie...we can get rid of a dictator and get Islamofascists in his place...
more BS from the UN and Bambam....
Italy? Libya?
Iran won’t — Gaddafi has been in power a long time, and has pissed off a lot of people. And Iranian proxies incited the riots that have been going on since about January throughout n Africa and various parts of the Near East. Lebanon — which is run by Iran’s proxy, the Hizbollah — wanted the no-fly zone, and want closure over a (Shiite, need I say it) mullah who disappeared in Libya thirty years ago.
Iran might use the no-fly zone as a good time to start playing its trumps, but I don’t think they’re quite ready. Having the French and US further distracted with the no-fly (and I think it’s obvious it would be the US, primarily) in Libya would open the opportunities Iran has to strike. But as I said, they’re not quite ready yet.

Much as I’d like to see Ghadafi taken out, I’m just not all worked up about saving his serfs..... the same serfs that cheered the Pan Am bombing, the recent return of the Lockerbie bomber, cheered 911 and generally are taught that us infidels are an enemy to be conquered.

One that will work with obama? I fear for this world.
No, it's not comforting.
In other words, the UN has approved it’s military force, duh that is the United States military, to spend US dollars to strike these guys and fly the zone at our tax payre dollars. No one else will pay for it. The UN will not pay for it. WE will pay for it. The world’s police force jumps into action again.
Watch what happens tomorrow. It’s going to be full out balls to the wall assaults on rebel positions, to hell with “holy” day. He’ll get it wrapped up by Monday.
George Bush I was told by the Saudis to let the marsh Arabs and Kurds hang in the wind.
Obama was told by the Saudis to let the Bani Salim and Az-Zuwayya tribes in east Libya hang in the wind.
Both actions were predicated on maintaining Saud control internally and externally.
The oil must flow, so we do their bidding.
Reports are that it will primarily be a French-Anglo operation with arab logistical support.
Earlier reports suggested that if the resolution were passed, air attacks on Col Gaddafi’s forces by the British and French air forces could begin within hours.
It is not thought that the US would be involved in the first strikes, but the British and French are likely to get logistical backup from Arab allies.

It's worth keeping in mind that the butcher is also your banker.
Seems like a lot of loose ends.
Now the Kuwaiti navy is moving to Bahrain,
just too many places for things to get out
of hand.
Let the Euro weenies handle this one.
Notice how we didn't stab France in the back on this, like they did to us over Iraq.
If it was Sooo bad for us to remove Saddam, who was worse and more of a threat than Q’Daffy is; why is it OK to get involved in some Muzzie Civil war?? Oh Yeah France needs cheaper oil.
Let the goat F*kers kill each other off, not our problem...we've got to deal with real threats here at home like Obamacare, and the rest of the Marxist agenda.
NO US BLOOD FOR FRENCH OIL!!!
Oy. As much as Gadaffi needs to go, we needed to stay out of this and not take sides.
This part of the resolution:
Authorises member states to “take all necessary measures” to “protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack”
Seems to give leeway for wide interpretation, including air to ground attacks on Libyan armed forces.
