In the aftermath of Japan's devastation, Conn. Sen. says it's time for temporary moratorium on building new nuclear plants
(CBS News)
Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman on Sunday called for a temporary moratorium on the construction of nuclear power plants in the U.S. in the aftermath of Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami, which damaged two reactors at a nuclear facility in the country's northeast.
"The reality is that we're watching something unfold," he said in an interview for CBS' "Face the Nation." "We don't know where it's going with regard to the nuclear power plants in Japan right now. I think it calls on us here in the U.S. - naturally not to stop building nuclear power plants, but to put the brakes on right now until we understand the ramifications of what's happened in Japan."
Japan, which was ravaged by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami last week, is now struggling with a growing nuclear crisis as a partial meltdown is already likely under way at one nuclear reactor, and operators are frantically trying to prevent the disaster from growing worse.

Under the “Something Bad Might Happen” Doctrine, we must depopulate the Ring of Fire and all coastal areas, including politicians’ beach houses. We must create a world free of risk and potential danger immediately. Our comfort is at stake.
I knew this would come....Just like the explosion in the Gulf means we ought to live in Tee-Pees and not progress with evil oil!
Yes it was. It could be the end of nuclear power in America. Let's hope not, but you know how these scum bag liberals are.
the irony is that in Ct, is one of the largest nuclear sub bases in the world; in addition, Millstone I and II operate nearby, successfully.

How would I tell the difference between a new moratorium on building nuclear plants and what has been the status quo in this country for the past 30 years?
POS Lieberman. Liar, hypocrite, and traitor to his own heritage.
This man deserves nothing less than the business side of a working mans boot.
Three Mile Island happened two weeks after “The China Syndrome” was released. It’s the entire reason that event was so blown out of proportion.
I’m so tired of the idiot masses and spineless, reactionary politicians acting like providing energy for billions of people must be without risk. We should be thanking the people who take those risks from the bottom of our hearts and congratulating them on a job well done. Damn ingrates.
never let a crisis go to waste
Ya know, man....I mean, this is like the dawn of the age of Aquarius, seriously, dude....I mean seriously.....
Old Teddy GONE!......Larry King GONE!....new blood, man, new blood.....shake dem bones......
Leni
And this surprises — who?!
Given the far greater destruction they’ve caused, it’s time for a moratorium on democrats.
What the heck happened the Lieberman?
Did we even have current plans to build one? Or are we putting the brakes on nothing to get public attaboys?
Knee jerk
Knee jerk
If you want all dufuses to leave, Government would become a very lonely place.
***Coal fired power plants are the worst polluters. Multiply the waste of one coal plant X the thousands now operating. Not to mention the coal slag piles.****
In fact, the fly ash emitted by a power planta by-product from burning coal for electricitycarries into the surrounding environment 100 times more radiation than a nuclear power plant producing the same amount of energy.
Bunkum by thirty year old standards. Even power plants back then had electrostatic precipitators to remove 99.5 % of all the fly ash.
The local coal fired power plant here terified people when it started up. Today it has the best fishing lake in the area and it produces bumper crops of deer each year. bald eagles winter here and people now love it.
The fly ash is sold for filler in cement and the crushed slag is used for road beds, fill around water and sewer lines along with a dozen other uses. It is even sold to the public for various uses.
Most of the damage in Japan was done by the tsunami. BAN OCEANS NOW!!!!!!
We have to up the qualifications to run for political office in the USA. A Common Sense index should be included as well. These Bozos are on the road to destroying the greatest political experiment to exist on planet Earth.
