I am not familiar with nuke designs, but that sounds like a point they don’t want to get to.
Thank you for posting real information.
There is too speculated panic in these threads.
Thank you for that informative description. Please update your input as conditions progress.
Did they say what was on fire?
God be with Japan during this time of need.
This has “Giant Radioactive Lizard” and/or “Giant Robot” written all over it.
As a professional engineer, it sounds like the pumps were damaged.
It seems to me not enough redundacy was built in.
The fire is likely caused by the diesel fuel for the backup generators having their tanks rupture.
I trust them.. Believe me I do..
It's not my input. I found it on another website and just posted it here. I found it here: http://theenergycollective.com/nathantemple/53384/how-shutdown-and-core-cooling-japanese-reactors-likely-functions
I read that when they went through their financial crisis over a decade ago, they had their exports (the tv)cars, their manufacturing and were savers. Even though their economy has not come back as fast as they had wished, perhaps because of the politics in deciding the right path to better economic growth; they still are a Rich country.
Yeah, I feel you there. Part of me wanted to make a Godzilla reference but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. This is too...
I don’t know what the word is. I’m really worried for these people.
no Buddhists / Shintos?
;) Me too.
We always hope tomorrow brings about a better today.
Please, not even close. “Normal” is about 100 mR per year. 1 hour in the Control room is a few mR per hour, TOPS. It would take several HUNDRED REM over a very short period of time to develop radiation sickness.
I’d hook up firetrucks to the secondary input and pump water since the diesels can’t seem to get started.
Demographically, Japan has problems though. Not enough children born, aging population, IIRC.
Are you thinking of Thailand? Japan has a pretty rigid social structure that honors family and ancestors above all else. Most are Buddhists. However, they DO celebrate Christmas bigger and better than in the US
