Are you thinking of Thailand? Japan has a pretty rigid social structure that honors family and ancestors above all else. Most are Buddhists. However, they DO celebrate Christmas bigger and better than in the US

Nope, its Japan. Its still a very male-centered society. Tokyo just proposed the other day to finally outlaw the possession of kiddie porn.

Hey France last year finally around to making incest illegal.

2% of Japanese are said to be true Christians. But Christian customs are quite popular also among the non-Christian population. 60% [mol] are said to really love the holiday spirit that surrounds Christmas with presents, even having Turkey. I think younger generations to come will bring those percentages higher.
