My guess is that, after being brutalized by the pirates, these folks already feel dead...inside.
This is the problem with “taking them into custody”.
They know that the worst that could happen to them is they get life in prison and then they get to live their life in what constitutes unbelievable luxury for a Somali. In other words, there is no disincentive for murder.
The Western countries, through their lunatic policies, are engouraging the pirates to commit murder.
Danes: You are dead, pirates.
... and the focus of the news last week was centered on that troubled part of the planet, even: Libya, Tunis, Egypt, and the Arab peninsula.
1) Destroy these pirates. Sacrifice the Danish hostages. Kill everyone.
2) Find the pirates home base. Shell, Bomb, and napalm.
3) If the actual pirate base is difficult to find, pick three ports at random and destroy all 3.
Somalia will decide that piracy in unprofitable.

My solution to captured pirates is to slice their arms and legs and throw them overboard to sharks while their cohorts watch and wait their turn.
