COLORADO SPRINGS - The security guard who saved lives by shooting a gunman at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs has apparently been asked to leave.
In December 2007, Jeanne Assam - working as a volunteer security guard - shot Matthew Murray after he killed two people outside the church. He killed two others the night before at a training center for Christian missionaries in Arvada.
Assam was honored for her quick action. Murray likely wouldve killed more people at the church if she had not shot him repeatedly then pinned him down.
Assam says last year when she told church leaders she is gay, she was asked to leave the church.
New Life pastor Brady Boyd told the Colorado Springs Gazette the report is untrue. "We would never tell someone to leave because of their sexual orientation," Boyd says. "Jeanne will always be a hero at New Life."
Assam gave a speech on Saturday, February 19 at the Pride Centers annual masquerade ball, a fundraiser for the gay community in Colorado Springs.
The Gazette reports she spoke of the pressures society places on gay people.
New Life Church was in the national spotlight in 2006 when Pastor Ted Haggard left after admitting he had had a relationship with a male escort in Denver.
She is a liar.
I hope you’re joking.
How do you know this?
They would have never asked her to leave for the reason she is stating.
Either this church is very confused and is not consistent, or there is something wrong with her story.
This her version of the story. If the church confronted her on the issue of homosexuality and she declined to listen and ignored it, then the church probably let her know that this was not acceptable (as they should have).
Too many times, church’s allow sinful behavior to go on without confronting it. If she came to the church saying, “I know this is wrong, but I’m struggling with it”, I’m sure the church would have welcomed her with open arms. Seeing that she is speaking at Gay right’s rallies, she doesn’t seem to feel that it’s a problem.
I can understand a church removing her from membership if she was unrepentant about her sin—if she defiantly insisted upon still having homosexual sex, for example. It doesn’t sound like she’s struggling with it and trying to repent, though, if she’s giving speeches at “pride centers.” And further, the pastor denied it, so now it’s she said/he said and we don’t really know the truth.

Relly? The Apostle Paul kicked a member out of the Church at Corinth because he was openly engaging in sexual sin. See Chapter 5 of 1 Corinthians. It was essentially the same situation as here.
So you don't actually know that she's lying, then, but you accuse her anyway.
I think there's a Commandment about that....
I have no problem with a gay person attending a Church, as you correctly comment, they need salvation as much as any of us. But the Church is obligated to not endorse a life of sin, so she should not be employed by the Church.
But I would say the same of a drunkard (habitually drunk) or someone living with their girlfriend/boyfriend.
You can attend, but you can’t be a member, hold a position, or be employed.
Some of us consider abuse of apostrophes to be a sin.
Because she was kicked off the police force in Minneapolis for filing false reports in back the 90s...
I don’t know the whole stories of either. But if Haggard was repentent and seeking help, then the church SHOULD allow him to be in their church (he should be stripped of all leadership roles though).
If this lady is not repentent and feels that she is doing no wrong, she needs to be confronted.
Even Jesus said a person must be shunned from the Church if they refust to repent from open sin. Matthew 18:15-17
Why would the church say that they would never dismiss a person for their sexual orientation?
In 1 Cor. 5, Paul tells the Corinthian church to dismiss a man who was dating his mom. Any and all non-heterosexual-married sex requires church discipline.
Sounds like New Life Church needs to change their name to Unchanged Life Church.
Does the pastor sin?.. If so, which ones?..
Are some sins better than others?..
Munching carpet is a sin I suppose.. so is cheating on your tithes..
Wonder how much that goes on!.....
THEN.. you got yer "packers", theres a nasty story.. for a future time..
But I fail to see why a Church would basically say "We don't allow sinners to enter our building."
Seems like the building would be pretty darn empty.
I know nothing about what really happened, but I find this woman's version of the story to be ... ummmm ... surprising.
It’s one thing to be attracted to the same sex. It’s another to act on it.
If a stright member, was sleeping with any willing member of the church - openly and flagarantly - they would likely be asked to leave too. Most churches do not endorse the promiscious lifestyle.
She opted to flagarantly display her orientation; now is demanding that the church change it’s stance, for her - because she is ‘special’.
So she’s obviously lying now....? Careful, son...
