Reuters) - Wisconsin's Republican Gov. Scott Walker said on Monday that absent senate Democrats have 24 hours to return and vote on a measure to reduce the power of public sector unions or the state will miss out on opportunity to refinance its debt.
"Now they have one day to return to work before the state loses out on the chance to refinance debt, saving taxpayers $165 million this fiscal year," Walker's spokesman Cullen Werwie said in a statement.
"Failure to return to work and cast their votes will lead to more painful and aggressive spending cuts in the very near future," the statement said.
Walker's budget proposal has sparked nationwide protests from labor unions who fear it could be a harbinger of things to come in other states. To balance the state's budget, Walker wants to require public sector employees to pay more for pensions and health care, and to strip their unions of bargaining rights except for wages up to the rate of inflation.

I disagree. It makes him look ineffective.
There's been no answer so far....do we have any crackerjack Wisconsin reporters out there in Freeperland?
Leni
Yeah,
I read that earlier too.
Gots to love them unionists.
Things warming up in Georgia?
If the dems walked out on Feb 17th, that means they have held the Governor hostage for 12 days.
I have read that there are a couple of recall petitions (heavily subscribed) that have started up for some of these creeps. The problem is that the leftist press is not reporting it.
I don't watch much TV and in any case I would never get my news from television. I either get it here, after looking up sources, or from foreign press sites.
But this whole thing is being manipulated by the US press. It should have been front page center in all our local papers...but instead it's non-existent.
I’ve been wondering about that, too.
Looking at the people in the videos I have seen, I would doubt that they were WI teachers. Probably the teachers are back at work and the Obama-Alinsky astroturf crowd is filling in for them.
I can’t believe we wouldn’t have heard more complaints from WI parents if the schools had been closed because of lack of staff.
Obama doesn’t want to stir up the (real) working class.
The rats tried that in Texas 10 years ago. Didn’t work. And now they ARE an endangered species.
LMAO!!!!!
Yes it’s called a “Writ of Mandamus”
He'll seriously consider layoffs.
If they aren't back in 48 hours, he'll really, really consider layoffs.
I think it’s like W taking 14 months to go to war with Iraq. He’s got to create a paper trail to show he was calm and reasonable every step of the way.
And then what? This game never ends, so once the crushing taxation doesn’t work, what then? I guess you could start witih the crushing sales taxes on home sales like Corzine did, to keep them from moving out of staate. But if the money’s not there, it’s not there.
Hey, Leni! Bad connection here, so not on much lately.
I’m up here in Wausau, but I home-school so I’m not privy to all the info, that parents here would have.. I saw the neighbor girl walking home from school today, so I know our local public high school is open. I’m not sure about the other schools, but there was a lot of talk when they were closed - people were very upset and you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about it... So, I’m going to hazard a guess to say that the schools are open in our district at least.
[Hope you are doing well... I will hopefully be back online soon!]
I think you’ve made your point in a quite negative way many times.
The taxpayers of Wisconsin cannot be happy about this nonsense....are they not up in arms, or are the media types only covering the thugs?
Mrs. Prince of Space
Good.
“So when the teachers were AWOL and schools were closed because of it, how much money did the school districts lose?”
Doesn’t matter to the leftists. The teachers got paid and the union dues continue to flow. If Wisconsin and the children get hurt, it is for the greater good of stopping any attempt in Wisconsin or other states to reign in the public employee Democrat power block.
Anybody else have anything to report from your Wisconsin school district?
Were your schools open and functioning today?
On-the-spot Freeper reporters and reporterettes needed to check in!
