Gov. Daniels walks back comments about Dem fleebaggers

After a considerable amount of blowback over Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels cuddly response to the flee-bagging Indiana Democrat legislator's run-and-hide strategy to avoid facing the consequences of their electoral defeat in the 2010 mid-terms, Daniels appeared on Fox News with Neal Cavuto to apologize for misspeaking.

This a good article, it even allows for a rebuttal from the Daniels camp. He may run, but this incident, along with his continual white flag waving to the demcorats about social issues has damaged him greatly. It's a worthwhile and short article.

From the article: Unfortunately, that energy can sometimes result in misleading information. Republican political operative Aaron Reber's response to my blog reporting Daniel's inappropriate and inadequate response to the fleebaggers suggests that Daniels was misquoted by "a media source." That media source was the Indy Star, Indiana's leading newspaper and an enthusiastic endorser of Daniels' candidacy. They have printed no corrections or retractions and there will be none forthcoming because there was no misquote as Daniel's admits on Cavuto.

The next Conservative Presidential candidate MUST be someone who doesn't apologize for Conservatism. We don't want a Candidate who is continually walking backwards.

Daniels has done nothing as of late to earn my vote. He is truly an establishment, DC beltway RINO.

Yep - looks like he’s the guy. It was McCain in 2008. I guess the question is whether we again allow the media to select our candidate, or do we REPUBLICANS have any say in it?

The only reason he would run is to be a spoiler like the rest of them.

I was interested in him earlier until he started to walk back on social positions a couple of months back. This absolute tone deaf response to the fleebaggers is the opposite of Walker, and it's going to make it real hard for the base to want to support him if he runs and wins.

The unions are fighting hard, and he just blew it big time with them.

One man, one vote; The media does not select the candidate. The media is a convenient, and deserving, scapegoat for those ultimately responsible for our candidates, the voters.

I’m thinking he personally wants to run, and he is also being prodded by GOP insiders and perhaps a certain candidate from Massachusetts to throw his hat in the ring. He was fairly successful in Indiana from what I understand, but he sure has failed the past few months. He’s on strike two and a bunch of foul balls one after another for me right now.

He did not mis-speak. He spoke what he felt. He’s apologizing because he made the mistake of thinking inside the belt-way milquetoast RINO Bush-like thought processes appeal to us and he is SHOCKED at our uncouth response. But, he needs our votes if he wants to run for the White House. Too late you worm. You screwed up and tipped your hand. We’re on to you.

Yeah, same here. I have defended his previous bulldog approach to fiscal issues but his backing down on social and collective bargaining issues have soured me big time.

Part of what Walker is trying to do Mitch did right after he came into office some time ago.

On January 11, 2005 he unilaterally rescinded all collective bargaining rights of state employees and voided pre-existing contracts.

Was anyone here aware of that?

I agree, he spoke like a true waver of the white flag for the sake of "getting along".

It's not a good sign, kind of showing his naivete towards the left, and I for one don't want that for our nominee or president.

Also, if that's true, why did he reverse his position this past week on the unions and the right to work stuff? It's pretty clear from the article Daniels knows he screwed up this past week.
