Bennett: GOP needs 'national view' candidate (ousted RINO attacks Tea Partiers, conservatives)

Former Utah Sen. Bob Bennett urged Republicans to nominate a presidential candidate with a "national view," and not focus on the ideological purity found in the early caucuses and primaries.

"If you're going to nominate a national candidate, don't make the mistake of assuming that those who attend the early caucuses and early primaries speak for the nation as a whole," he said, speaking to Greta Van Susteren on Fox News on Friday. Bennett referred to 2010 midterm Senate races as a "cautionary tale" to Republicans whose candidates fail to attract moderate voters, in particular Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski's write-in reelection win over tea party favorite Joe Miller. He said the tea party candidates cost the Republicans a majority in the Senate.

"If you're going to nominate a national candidate you better have a national view, and we've always done that. The Republican nominee has almost always been closer to the center than the center of gravity of the Republican party," Bennett said.

If we cared what he thought, he would have been re-elected.

Maybe he wants a National Socialist-lite view?

Politico needs writers who actually took something hard in college.

Bob Bennett is correct about ‘national view’, but he doesn’t understand what that means: upholding the U.S.Constitution and applying the Rule of Law.

Sorry, Bob, but you don’t get to choose which rights in the Constitution are nullified by legislation, or which laws will not be enforced.

The Tea Party cuts across political parties, all races and ethnic groups, and is wildly supported by rich and poor alike.

The reason you’re no longer a Senator, Bob, is because you forgot you governed by consent of the people who paid your salary.

Yeah, Bennett like many elitist, stalwart, know all, visionary disciples of all that's good, blames it on the stupidity of the voter as to why he was evicted from his representative position.

His constituents just lost track of his conviction is all.

Bennett was never a Democrat and wasn't brought in to run in an area where a regular Republican couldn't win.

He represents a time (LBJ's) and place (we need cheap field hands) that has passed on ~ besides he's SENILE and doesn't function well anymore. Did somebody check his eyesight lately?

What we need to do is weed the old codgers from the ranks of the political professionals and make the Republican party LOOK YOUNG (even if we are hankering after the good old days).

Wish you guys would quit wasting RINO on people who weren't and aren't. We'll never get anybody to run for us in Rhode Island again if you keep doing that.

He’s totally wrong. The reason the “tea party” candidates lost in some races was due to personality rather than ideology. You run someone just as conservative as Sharron Angle who has a more organized campaign and isn’t prone to gaffes such as walking into a group of hispanics and saying “You all look Asian to me” and they would have easily defeated Reid. Other candidates made similar errors.

He's picking up the crumbs of those who are now pertinent.

We need to be a “big tent”.

We need “broad appeal” to get the vote of the moderates.

We need to “tone down” the rhetoric.

Of course we did all the above and got Obamacare......
