February 22, 2011 12:09 P.M. By Jim Geraghty Tags: John Thune John Thune will NOT be running for president. For months now, my wife Kimberley and I have received encouragement from family, friends, colleagues, and supporters from across South Dakota and the country to run for the presidency of the United States. We have appreciated hearing their concerns about where the country is headed and their hopes for a new direction. During this time, Kimberley and I and our two daughters have given a great deal of thought to how we might best serve South Dakota and our nation. That process has involved lots of prayer.Along the way, we have been reminded of the importance of being in the arena, of being in the fight. And make no mistake that during this period of fiscal crisis and economic uncertainty there is a fight for the future direction of America. There is a battle to be waged over what kind of country we are going to leave our children and grandchildren and that battle is happening now in Washington, not two years from now. So at this time, I feel that I am best positioned to fight for Americas future here in the trenches of the United States Senate.Sen. John Thune NOT Running for President

... and Generalissimo Franco is still dead...
Keep laughing, PDS’er.
No matter how one views Thune's credentials, he has a good understanding of the fundamental issue facing our nation. But the battle has now moved beyond Washington and it could be over, with America the loser, within two years.
Think that view is alarmist? We have a president who has been surrounded by anti-America figures every day of his life, first by family and then by choice. One who over recent years has spent more WH time with union officials, who happen to be members of the Democratic Socialists of America, than he has with members of his cabinet.
With DeMint, Pence, Christie and Thune gone, and the fact only Romney and Huckabee are competitive (and barely, at that) in a hypothetical general tells me the GOP has a horrendously weak field.
Good people see what happened to Palin. They're simply not willing to subject themselves and their families to the political meatgrinder.
“We need a ballsy candidate-”
Will Congressman Allen West please pick up the white courtesy phone!
No surprise here. When (Not if) the Republicans take control of the Senate in 2012, he is in line for top committee chairmanship.
Not being Palin
John Who?
Good!
I agree 100%!!!
He's tall.
RE: “What makes Thune a RINO?”
*************
I don’t think he’s a RINO. He is a very articulate, competent Senator but probably does not have it in him to get into the trenches in ‘12. We need someone tough this time and he probably gets it that the country wants someone like: Cain, West, Christie, Gov. Walker, etc. — not like-minded by any means, but willing to get out there and smack down the fools. Thune is far too polite, would not get angry enough. Good man, but not POTUS material at this time.
Palin/West 2012 That`s my suggestion as well. West is a good man for sure. I bet Obama would be very very afraid of a Palin West ticket, as aposed to a Palin/Bachman ticket
Nobody even half good is running.
Allen West 2012!
Breaking: I’m not running for President either.
Ha! So that’s the new definition, huh? It should be interesting watching the meltdowns ‘round these har parts after the IA, NH, and SC primaries.
Thune would be a good VP candidate.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, since South Dakota is such a small state, he never really had a chance. I assume that Gov. Mitch Daniels is the front-runner now.
