Montana's governor encourages ranchers to kill wolves

BILLINGS, Mont. — Defying federal authority over gray wolves, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Wednesday encouraged ranchers to kill wolves that prey on their livestock -- even in areas where that is not currently allowed -- and said the state would start shooting packs that hurt elk herds.

Schweitzer told the Associated Press he no longer would wait for federal officials to resolve the tangle of lawsuits over wolves, which has kept the animals on the endangered species list for a decade since recovery goals were first met.

"We will take action in Montana on our own," he said. "We've had it with Washington, D.C., with Congress just yipping about it, with [the Department of the] Interior just vacillating about it."

Wildlife/game/predator management is the job of state Fish and Game agencies. Not controlling wolves in the offhand chance that they may do the job of killing off diseased elk is not a responsible way to manage either elk or wolves. The states have the responsibility of managing both deer and wolves, and if the federales don't like it, they can go suck on it.

A friend of mine told me tonight that coyotes are now in Gibbstown, N.J. As he is a hunter, I warned him to tell people about their kids, as well as their cats and dogs.

“Montana’s governor is a Democrat. The other governor who has taken on the Feds over wolves was a Democrat”

Ho! Wait a minute. Could this be trickery? To push something against the states and then give their own governors a chance to “stand up” to them? It makes these two look good.

Good cop, bad cop?

“Before shooting those cute creatures,”

There is nothing cute about a wolf!

Kill all the bastards!

“Up for reelection in 2012.”

That’s one state the Dems keep. I just hope he doesn’t run for Senate, as he’ll end up like Munchkin and W. Virginia and vote with the Dems when they really need his vote...and then maybe vote against them on other important issues (like dedicating Plague Remembrance Day or whatever).

What will be VERY INTERESTING is how The Regime reacts. It sounds as though, so far, they’ll just ignore him and let him have his way. Technically, of course, they could have the National Guard or who knows what go in there and arrest him (at least I have no doubt that Obama believes that). On that note, it’s interesting to wonder how The Regime would respond if he’s a Republican - and likewise how the MEDIA would respond if was a Republican and called himself “Tea Party”.

“Gotta wonder if there’s not something else about the cross breeds that will bring them into towns. Mighty bold behavior when their instincts should be to avoid humans.”

These are not cross breeds, just larger Canadian Grays that have lost their fear of humans due to no hunting and shortage of natural prey that they have already decimated. You see the same behavior with ALL predators - cougars, bears, coyotes, etc. all across the western states.

Politicians and judges are feckless and useless, so do the three S’s whenever possible and defund each and every bill to reintroduce these predators into urban areas! Reasonable hunting seasons would soon cause a balance that is sustainable and balanced but the eco-nazis oppose that.

So screw ‘em and the horse they rode in on!

I’d hold my horses about this prick D-Rat Montana Governor...I remember him as the consummate Drat. I think this is like the House blew dog and Pelosi, this is likely just a show for the red state electorate in Montana.

He is a great governor who stands up for the 2nd amendment like nobody I have ever seen. Its hard to believe he is a Dem.

He's a piece of filthy scum even if he's right on a couple issues (that is he doesn't have a choice to be liberal on or he couldn't get elected in MT). If he ever ends up in congress you'll see what liberal garbage he is. Recall his 2000 Senate race.

That jerk in Wyoming was also scum who loyally served as Clinton's US Attorney.

"This is a real-life problem in Montana - and we plan to start solving the problem," Schweitzer said.

Aside from the political side of this, wolves and coyotes have their place in the wild.

Having a regulated hunting season to control their population and protecting ones family and property is one thing but, indiscriminate slaughter isn't necessary. It will throw nature out of balance and cause destruction from other species. (ie feral hogs/elk/deer/rodents/etc)

I've been hunting/fishing all my life and have a great respect for nature in general

Good.

A little here, a little there, and the feds will not be able to put a stop to all of it.

If I see a wolf in WI, I will shoot it, including any coyotes as well............

Move to Juneau County. We have lots of them here.

Term limits so he will not be running for Governor again. I think he has plans for something higher up the food chain.

Nature was thrown out of balance by the introduction of these monster wolves into the lower 48. It was no more "natural" than introducing African lions of Bengal tigers into the states.

Indiscriminate slaughter is exactly what is necessary; of the wolves, and of those who created this disaster.
