Suspended teacher defends blog calling students lazy whiners 4:19pm EST
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A high school English teacher suspended from her job after she blogged that her students were "rude, disengaged, lazy whiners," said on Wednesday that she did nothing wrong.
"Some of the students, parents and administrators don't want to hear the truth," said Natalie Munroe, 30, a teacher at Central Bucks East High School north of Philadelphia.
In a blog she said was intended to be seen only by a handful of her friends, but was shared on Facebook by a student who discovered it, Munroe was highly critical of some students and school administrators.
"My students are out of control," she wrote.
"They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners. They curse, discuss drugs, talk back, argue for grades, complain about everything, fancy themselves entitled to whatever they desire and are just generally annoying."
She suggested more accurate ways to describe pupils on their report cards, including "Seems smarter than she actually is" and "A complete and utter jerk in all ways."
In another post, she denounced the school administration by using a crude anatomical reference.
Munroe, who is nearly 9 months pregnant, was suspended with pay pending an investigation into her blog, said Carol Counihan, spokeswoman for the school district.
Munroe was escorted from the school a week ago by the principal and a security guard.

Not good sense, to write a blog that is offensive to your employer under your own name. Even one that is only going to be shared with a few friends.
Yeah, I bet there is mostly truth in that. But still it was very stupid to put that on a blog (and get caught). She is 9 months pregnant though... bet that played a part. My wife was hell on wheels during pregnancy.
"My students are out of control," she wrote.
"They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners. They curse, discuss drugs, talk back, argue for grades, complain about everything, fancy themselves entitled to whatever they desire and are just generally annoying."
I think we have located the conservative teacher;)
For sure. The blog was a great idea, and spot on, but why put your real name to it.
Uhm... her “employers” are the taxpayers who fund the school that she teaches at and they deserve to know the truth.
Don’t fall for the trap that her “employer” is some district head dunderbluss who also gets his salary from the taxpayers.
I’m conservative teacher, and I don’t see how airing individual grievances with students in public is at all conducive to professional conduct.
Stupid? Since when is telling the truth, stupid? We need more teachers who face up to the truth.
“a blog that is offensive to your employer”
One of the best things about being self-employed is the ability to annoy your boss whenever you feel like it!;)
I agree with her also. What gets me is that parents would be upset that she said this about her students! If one of my kids teachers would have said that about my kid, my kid would be the one in trouble. Not the teacher. I couldn’t be a teacher, since I wouldn’t be allowed to “reach out and touch one” of the little darlin’s....
Her description fits most of the “hands out” liberals in the country.
she said on FOX that it was a private blog and only meant for 4 people
LOL
Is this the kind of stupid people we have teaching kids now?
Hey dumbo its the internet, nothing is private
You mean anything you post on the web isn’t protected? Damn!
Dumb, unprofessional, and immature....
Also dead on. Ironically, she’s acting a bit like the students she’s complaining about.
But “Seems smarter than she actually is”. Glass houses....
she is stupid for saying on FOX that the message was private done on her blog.
I guess she forgot that the internet is where anyone can read it.
I agree.
I agree with what you said, she was probably cranky, being 9 months pregnant...I figure I’d be that way too!! People have to remember they’re not really that anonymous on the internet. She just should have told them all how “special” they are!;)
