There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that I would vote for a man that allowed his troops to serve under a likely usurper posing as president and Commander in Chief.

While General Patraeus might be willing to fall on a grenade for his troops against a foreign enemy on foreign soil, I **seriously** doubt that he would defend the Constitution against a **domestic** enemy. Gee! doing that might hurt his career or pension. /s

“The US is one of only a handful of countries that allow their soldiers to vote in elections. In most European countries, when someone becomes a soldier, they give up their right to vote.”

That makes no sense. What documentation do you have for this? Seems like a lot to give up, when you’re serving your country.

I know some Soviet POWs begged not to return as thety knew they faced camps, trials etc but the Allies sent them back to Stalin anyway.

See: Katyn Massacre, Vinnitsa, Kharkiv, and Berezwecz prison massacres. The US and Brits knew that sending prisoners back to Russia was a death sentence to the prisoners, but did it anyway.

That makes no sense. It actually makes a lot of sense. It removes the military as a political force. Robert Heinlein suggested that if you're going to serve in public office (maintaining a government sector job) that your voting privileges be suspended until you retire to prevent a bureaucratic voting bloc.

“There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that I would vote for a man that let LTC Lakin and Major Cook swing slowly in the wind.”

Good point; very good point.

Even though many here would consider him rhino, I think he’d make an excellent VP. He brings in all the military vote and he’s got a good presence, even when he’s among scum.

I think that’s unfair. McCain is incredibly outspoken about his liberal views, and Petraeus hasn’t shown any of that....yes, he might vote more like McCain, but I don’t think that makes him as bad as McCain.

Oh, give it a damned rest, Polyanna. You're suggesting that the whole military should just sit down and do nothing in a time of war.

If they gave points for stupid ideas, you'd get 5 bonus plays.

Did KC ask Mrs Petraeus what types of magazines she reads?

Yes, after screwing up so badly at first . . .

General Petraeus? Do you know the history of the Iraq war? Petraeus was brought in as the commanding general because he literally wrote the book on urban pacification and dealing with insurrection. The changes that were made in the Iraq strategy were his changes, as was the surge.

Petraeus will run for President.

The most decorated and honored military officer of his generation. That’s what we need...real leadership and vision.

Heinlein’s proposal makes sense—it would apply to the 1.5 million permanent federal employees.

I see military service not as a cynosure, but as a sacrifice of time and life for your country. Military folks should retain their franchise.

On the gripping hand, if I had to choose, I would opt for cutting off all voting from federally funded employees.

I assume this is Obama pre-positioning for the 2012 election, if “virtually the entire...leadership” is leaving.

Mike Mullins’ term as Joint Chiefs Chairman is up in October. Watch for Petraeus to get the appointment as a reward for his work in Afghanistan

Mullen was the poofter Ubama and the rats needed for their assault on the military, with the repeal of DADT. Since that assault ended up "mission accomplished", it's time to get somebody competent in there as Joint Chiefs Chairman. Somebody with a clue.

Good riddance to Mullen (hopefully).

This man ( with domestic balls of a dust mite) turned a blind eye to two officers who **politely** asked Obama to prove his natural born citizenship. Patraeus let two truly brave men and war veterans, Lakin and Cook, twist slowly in the wind.

( My apologies to the noble dust mite.)
