Over 40 years ago there was a folks song about this sort of thing although it was back when the 64,000 dollar question was on...it was to the tune of John Henry and he took on a steel driving machine instead of a computer...but the moral of this song ..is please dont get me wrong
Don’t even doubt the thinking power of man, no sir...but on the other hand..don’t ever sell your stock..in IBM...

Well, that sucks.

I expected 3 days of jeopardy. But it's not.

Single jeopardy today, double jeopardy tomorrow and final jeopardy wednesday.

:(

lol. I think it was Sculley when he was CEO of Apple famously said, "Don't sell IBM short. They didn't get to be a $50 billion a year company by hiring a bunch of bozo's."

I always liked that one. ;)

Watson is tied for the lead now. 5k Watson, 5k Brad and 2k Ken.

Watson is missing some or unsure so he doesn't ring in. But the answers are all in his top three choices. So they might need a bit of fine tuning yet.

lol. Wish they'd put watson online. Can you imagine the leap forward in research if there were a half a dozen watsons online that you could ask a question and it would spit out the 3 best answers and any additional information you request for it?

Godspeed

I’ll be watching, that’s for sure. It’ll be fun.

But... No matter what the hype implies... There is NO WAY that thing is intelligent. Turing was wrong. It has ZERO self awareness. It’s following a set list of instructions. It cannot change its mind; it has no mind. It’ll never wrestle with self-doubt. It’ll never suffer the pangs of guilt. It’ll never experience the joy of helping a fellow automaton in need, etc. The hype over its supposed AI is r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s. It’s a mindless machine and it’s going to be fun to watch it kick a$$.

I thought Watson was a volleyball.

Wilson. Or, Spalding, depending on which side of the tracks you're from...

I’ll believe the computer is self aware, not when it can play a contestant on Jeopardy, but when it can play a celebrity on Hollywood Squares or Matchgame.

Watson is as intelligent as the humans who created him want him to be.

I never thought I’d see parsing of natural english so well developed as in this computer. Amazing.

I agree. I agree with the others on this thread that it's not self awareness, let alone intelligence. It plays to the computer's strengths: speed and processing power.

Still and all, this team at IBM did a magnificent job on this.

lol. I had an ugly mental picture earlier. What happens when we have 3 computers playing jeopardy and no humans?

Godspeed all

All true, plus the computer can’t forget.

Still a very interesting show.

lol. Ya know? I was thinking about the 3 computers on jeopardy thing and kept following it.

Wonder what would happen if you have 3 computers filled with different datasets. Wonder if they would still come up with the same answers even though they are processing with the same programs and objects, but with different data.
