5 Best and 5 Worst Places for Conservatives to Live
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Megan Fox

Here in the totally Democrat-run state of IL, a 66% income tax just hit our paychecks last week. As you can imagine, anyone with any sense has spent the last week discussing to which state we should flee. My friends and I have been fantasizing about a conservative commune where everyone showers, no one would starve (because we hunt) and there is no wife-swapping. It’s a fun exercise to think about. Several of us believe a solution to our partisan problems (before it descends into civil war) might just be to part ways with the American Left and set up traditional American government in the already conservative states. The first goal should be in beefing up these already rational and taxpayer-friendly states with more like-minded citizens. Too many of us are separated and living in enemy territory, forced into an ideological closet from which we dare not exit for fear of public humiliation and shunning.

Living in a solid blue state, it is nearly impossible not to have been accosted at a cocktail party while trying to enjoy some shrimp by a (literally) foaming at the mouth leftist who accidentally found out you voted for Bush. And God forbid it should be discovered you once worked for Rush Limbaugh (like me). In that scenario, not one person would come to your defense if your accuser threw you through a plate glass window. I’m not a bumper sticker person (too hard to scrape off) but I’ve known a few brave souls who’ve had their cars scratched for advertising their conservative beliefs. There must be better places to live. I’ve come to the conclusion that now might be the time to start looking. The following are the best and worst places in the country for a conservative...

Of course it’s the answer to a trick question. Not a single county in Louisiana went to McCain either ;-)

If it’s a place you like and want to live for a long time, you might consider a closed loop in ground heat pump system.
Expensive, but might pay off over decades.

Number one of Nombah DuhWon in Santa Cruz.

The worst of the worst, with the possible exception of San Francisco, Berkeley, North Richmond, West Oakland, East Palo Alto, Compton, Roubidoux...

By the way, I hate these “10 best” articles that make you change pages TEN TIMES to read the whole thing. And I am on Superfast FIOS. It’s just lame.

Obama lost every county in the country called Cherokee (Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas all have Cherokee counties). I think he got the lowest percentage in the one in Georgia.

But as far as I know, only the one in Oklahoma has a song about it (David Frizzell, "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma").

“And with all the illegals voting in LA and SF the Dems win everything in California. I loved California but the politics of the state are so destructive. Too bad. That state is absolutely beautiful. “

A well kept secret...The State of Jefferson....the Southern end of Oregon and the No. end of California. Likely one of the most conservative places you will ever find.

Good for you! It is harder to think of conservatives in some ridiculous caricature if you actually know a conservative.

Northern transplants have ruined NC. Family is from there and have slowly watched it slide into becoming a twin of TaXachusetts.

They call Cary-”Containment Area for Relocating Yankees” but sadly that can apply to most of the state now.

Up here you can usually get 10% for cash for almost anything, there are a lot of suppliers for almost any commodity our tax laws are very lax.

I was rather surprised when they offered a discount never got one in Mass, maybe you are supporting the po folks, if you are in a co-op there should be an annual report for the members and a distribution of profits.

Had an attic full of insulation put in last fall and my electric bill was still $427 last month (about 2300sf to heat). Natural gas not available here - the coop put in one of those smart meters a couple of years ago - bills have doubled since then - blackouts for no reason about once a month - thinking about putting in a wood burning fireplace insert for next winter. Had propane heaters taken out because of the film they created inside the house.

I’m old and retired. I bought this place (my first) to die here. Anything I do to or for the place is either for my immediate comfort or to last for 15 more years, max. I augment my propane heat with a wood/coal burning FHA furnace ducted into the propane fed system.

I think TENNCare might by itself knock Tennessee out of the running.

Thought that was put out of its misery recently...oh, well.

They are cracking down on the teacher's unions, though...

Alaska is a union state with the majority of its employed citizens working for the government at the federal or state level. Plus a % of its residents have factored in government assistance into their annual pay, in the winter months they have no work so they collect unemployment. Also the Native Alaskans get automatic preference, even if they are not qualified nor have the necessary expertise.

Not very conservative practices.

I’d take Wyoming over Alaska if one likes the outdoors. Although Wyoming like Utah is always battling DC over property/land rights, minerals etc...

Retired early in ‘99 to take care of the folks. Moved to WV from Fun City in early ‘02 and have never regretted it....except for the humidity in summer. :)

What is the number of members divided into the gross profit, you might have an over head problem. If this is true you have a duty as a member and a FReeper to be a pain in the ass at the next board meeting, investigate first.

Gives you something to do in retirement.

I always differentiate it by area, not state. In the midwest, there are some very conservative and very lefty areas in all of the states, and sometimes even in the same county.

Wayne County. Blue zone central. It has Detroit. It also has Livonia which is center-right. Washtenaw County has Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti which is blue zone central. Manchester is relatively conservative. Northfield Township where I live is relatively centrist, despite my mailing address. I have the most conservative congressman in the state representing me, and a moderate republican state rep. We're making progress even behind enemy county lines, firing our incumbent.

My role is to refuse to be dismissed, to force the Lefties/Greenies to listen to me or at least to acknowledge that other views exist

May I commend you for your courage, sir or madam
