The following February, at a separate conference on “brain death,” an international gathering of medical, neurological and philosophical experts roundly condemned the criteria, saying that they result in the deaths of patients by premature removal of organs.

It's all about money for the culture of death.

Absolutely. The risk of cutting out organs from a living person is just too unacceptable.

” No ‘moral certainty’ that brain death is really death “

This is certainly true in any number of Democrat precincts....

It has been my fear for some time that Brugger is correct.

A nuclear scan showing lack of blood flow to the brain is good enough for me. There is never any hope of recovery.

Anybody see the truly great movie, Never Let Me Go, based on the book of that name by the Japanese/British author Kazuo Ishiguro (also author of Remains of the Day)?

Most of the people declared brain dead after a traumatic event wouldn't live very long anyway (although some would and might even recover) but regardless of this, their organs would no longer be useful. That's why they are being hastened on their way.

Just look at Nancy Pelosi. She suffered brain death about 40 years ago and is clearly still alive.

When I worked, we talked to the non responsive believing that they had the ability to process incoming information.. there have been stories of them reviving later and recounting the family talking about their death..

My family know..no organ donation at all from me.. for just this reason

Liberals are against the death penalty because they do not trust that the state governments have sufficient controls over the process to insure that an innocent person is not killed.

Many of these same liberals have no qualms about a single doctor who, without anywhere near the accountability an accused has, declares someone dead so that the organs can be harvested. They never ever seem to be concerned that the doctor may be giving the death penalty to someone who could recover.

Perfectly stated!

I remember an experiment conducted in the 1970s in which EEG readings indicated brain life, from a bowl of lime Jello.

Wits remarked at the time that, “while this proves that lime Jello is alive, there is yet no consensus that life exists in other flavors or brands of gelatin, nor proof that life can exist outside of a bowl.”

Or if they do, they should talk about it in another room! ;-)

Yes but that person wasn’t brain dead.

There has never, ever been a case a someone who’s been declared brain dead according to the American Academy of Neurology’s criteria coming back. That means having a flat EEG, waiting 24 hours, having a still flat EEG, and a negative cerebral blood flow scan.

By then of course your brain has already started to rot a bit but no harm in making sure.
