CAIRO, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Saboteurs blew up a pipeline that runs through Egypt's North Sinai and supplies gas to Israel, state television and other sources reported on Saturday.
State TV quoted an official as saying that the "situation is very dangerous and explosions were continuing from one spot to another" along the pipeline.
"It is a big terrorist operation", a state TV reporter said.
A security source said the Egyptian army closed the main source of gas supplying the pipeline.
"The armed forces and the authorities managed to close the main source of flow and are trying to control the fires," the source said.
Israel's National Infrastructure Ministry said it was looking into the incident.
Egypt is a modest gas exporter, using pipelines to export gas to Israel and also to Jordan and other regional states. It also exports via liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities on its north coast, but those are not in the Sinai region.
State television said the pipeline that was attacked supplied both the Israeli and Jordanian gas lines.

Does anyone really think this entire Egyptian problem is anything less than an Iranian-Hamas-Jihadist attempt to take over the country, then Jordan, and then attack Israel?
Not a huge deal but it makes good press and probably looks good at night.
I’d guess the agitators felt they weren’t getting their way so have to throw additional tantrums.
Tear your country down so you can rebuild it! That’s a plan. Make it so no one will want to do business or invest- sure fire deal. Hard to eat sand, I think.
But was it ‘inspirational’ sabotage?
Somebody probably used mean words, and made them do it!
Blow up the pipeline to Israel and Jordan (down stream) loses its gas supply -Reuters begrudgingly states last. Geography is funny like that.

Terrorists can do the same thing here except they work within and only need to upset the computer programming, compressor relays or sabotage the field input stations, basically turning the pipeline off.
Makes a person wonder how many Moslems are working in our power and fuel grids.
This shot was taken from El-Arish about 40 miles away.
Bedouin tribesmen of the Sinai Peninsula attempted to blow up the pipeline last July as tensions intensified between them and the Egyptian government, which they accuse of discrimination and of ignoring their plight.
Hussein throwing Mubarak under the bus was a classic Carter asswipe move.
"I think it is clear, the people have spoken, the gas pipeline must go. And by 'go' we mean 'yesterday'. Let the Jews get their energy source from somewhere else. Egypt's young people know best."

Apparently Obama.
Apparently it only takes some cold weather to do it. Stay warm New Mexico.

Actually, that almost certainly came about because of EPA regulations that have led the pipeline companies to replace gas turbines with electric motors. In a widespread power outage (think big ice storm), you lose your gas supply, too.
I’m OK with calling creating conditions that lead to people literally freezing in the dark, “terrorism”.
