Stonewall Jackson is rolling over in his grave.
Next month his beloved Virginia Military Institute will be convening a celebration commemorating the 1300th anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Spain under the Muslim warlord Tariq ibn Ziyad in 711 A.D. The March 23-25 celebration entitled 711-2011: East Meets West and organized by VMIs Center for Leadership and Ethics, is scheduled to feature standard Muslim apologists Reza Aslan and Akbar Ahmed. VMI Superintendent Gen. J.H. Binford Peay has even filmed an invitation to the celebration.

Some would say 1570.
Where is El Cid when you need him?
flabbergasted at this upcoming propaganda.
This is infuriating.
Wow... saw it. A "commemoration of the brilliant contributions resulting from the blending of eastern and western cultures." Again... Wow.
So a brutal 781-year occupation by a satanic cult is somehow "brilliant." I thought the leadership at VMI knew better.
If they are studying it in the context of military operations, then why invite Reza Aslan and Akbar Ahmed, who are not exactly military historians or tacticians? You are giving them wayyyyy to much benefit of the doubt.
I come from a Citadel family and I have to agree.
I strongly urge everyone reading this to contact the school and your local media. This is nothing but sheer propaganda and needs to be brought out into the sunlight.
I get your point, but let us be clear: The military is not made up a “large percentage” of intellectual misfits and general f-ups.” The cross-section of the military does not reflect the average cross section of the civilian world—which is a good thing because the civilian world is made up of a large percentage of intellectual mis-fits and general f-ups.
The military is made up of a large percentage of young men dedicated to this great nation, disciplined, proud and willing to sacrifice for a cause greater than themselves.
Basically, the military is made up of a large percentage of young men that are patriots.
Young men serve their nation, putting their self-interest second. Intellectual misfits and general f-ups are not drawn to that world.
Some are there, but hardly a “large percentage.”
We are past due. More to the point, the Muzzies are overdue for an ass whipping.

hmm, maybe emails are needed to alert Pam Geller of Atlas Shrugged & Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch. And email to VMI: perhaps Geller & Spencer could be invited to this event to present a balanaced (truthful) view.
Yeah, Make that “VMI” - I think the mistake was because I was thinking, “Wussy Military Institute”.
They’ll be auctioning off the New Market and Stonewall Jackson statues soon, if they haven’t already.
The story is told of Tibetan monks sitting on a nearby hillside watching as their centuries-old monastery, with its irreplacable library of scriptures, burned to the ground - not sad or distraught, merely meditating on the transitory nature of all things.
A celebration of Dhimmitude! Christians, Jews and Muslims did not “thrive(sic) side by side”, the Muslims instituted Sharia law which reduced all non-Muslims to third class citizens (women were already occupying the niche of second class citizens).
They took over the Cordoba Cathedral, pretended they were just going to “share” it, and then outright kicked the Christians out of the other half. This, according to their view of history, gives them a right to Spain, Cordoba, and the Cathedral in perpetuity until the world's end.
Actually, they’ve updated it. When I checked it out the first sentence actually said it was a “celebration”. Wish I would have saved it, but it may be cached somewhere.
Anyone have a screenshot of the VMI site where it says “celebration”? It says “commemoration” now. Not heartwarming, but also not as pointedly dhimmi.
